Terrible news, but not overly surprising. Wang (or whoever would own the team) needs to go somewhere he can make money, and somewhere that will be receptive to having a hockey team (unlike Nassau, as it appears right now).

We just need to hold out hope that they can get something done to keep the team in the area

Islanders aren't going anywhere. Wang has a lease on the land. The Isles still have 3 more seasons.

The Stanley Cup was the only thing that kept the Pittsburgh Penhuins where they belong a few years ago, and it will be the same here. Isles will have one foot out the door, and the league will either force Wang to sell the team to someone wgoing to keep the team here or the politicians will snap out of it and realize they lose the Isles, they lose Nassau Coliseum, and they lose everything.

No one said it was gonna be easy for the fans but its gonna happen whether you wanna be a cynical dope about it or not.

The NHL is also looking for its best interest in making money.

That's why the Phoenix Coyotes still exist right?

The NHL knows darn well that moving a team like Phoenix to Quebec will create a hell of lot more money and lose a hell of a lot less money than sacrificing the Islanders, the name that was place on that team from 1980-1983 that just happened to be the greatest hockey team to ever lace up the skates together in this league.

Yes but If they decide they want to just renovate the building idk ow much that can do. Right now the league minimum for seating is supposed to be 17500. To build more seats we would have to collapse the roof, building a new Coli

^League minimum supposed to be 17500?

Tat explains why Winnipeg just moved into the lowest seated arena in the NHL. lets say that were true. Then why in God's name would Brooklyn be a realistic possibility? 14,500 for hockey? It isn't. That's why everything is 100% speculationright now. And anyone who can put 2 and 2 together realizes politics ruined this and Wang s the biggest politician of them all.

How is renovating the arena and making it brand new essentially any different? If anything, I like it better. Do it without knocking down all the history. This is the building where the Isles won 4 cups, and had some of the greatest players of all time play, lets kep it that way.

The renovation that went with the lighthouse project would have increases seats in the coliseum to 17,500. And no, itwouldnt have colapsed

The scariest thing is how Wang is apparently looking to move/sell the team to outside sources now.

Wang has been "open to all options" for the past 3 and a half years now... Nothing has changed, its just the media distorting things.

IF you believed Wangwas only looking in the NY area before now, then youre dead wrong. That would be simply ******** of him. Wang has NO priority tokeep the Isles in NY. His goal is to keep the Isles in nassau. Ifhe cant do that, all bets are off

One of the politicians about the current Nassau situation

"“We will then pursue other teams that are out there that would maybe want to relocate to the Island, because it’s a great spot."

This is so stupid. It's all a bunch of political ******** to see who is going to blink first. If I was one of these LI officials, I wouldn't call Wang's bluff. They really think they can develop that land and lure another team after the Isles leave? Yea, right. The Isles need LI, and LI needs the Isles. It almost makes too much sense, they need to come to some agreement.

Heres what i think. I think you guys here who go to the meeting (if any of you do) list the name of all the politicians against new building or even the ones not helping something get through; list their names and come the next election, vote against them. Maybe that will motivate the politicians to do something for us. Just like the Volunteer Fire Service Did With Suozzi, EVERY FIREFIGHTER on LI voted against him and got mangano in. yes mangano is no better but suozzi is out because of his threats to consolidate the VOLUNTEER fire service and cut houses. Lets do the same with politicians and the NVMC.

LET THE SNIPING BEGIN: ABLI’s Polimeni Firing Shots Through the Media

“Make the assumption they are leaving. Their lease is up in two years. We will then pursue other teams that are out there that would maybe want to relocate to the Island, because it’s a great spot. Or not. We can just do the development that doesn’t involve the Coliseum.”

That was ABLI’s Vince Polimeni to CBS yesterday explaining his thoughts on what would happen to the Coliseum site if the Islanders were to leave in 2015. Obviously we’re going down the murky road of hypotheticals here but it’s worth noting that Polimeni has already shown his hand in this game in addition to making some utterly false and brash statement about “other teams.”

First things first, there are no professional teams coming to Nassau County. Not now, not ever.* After what the Islanders have been put through by Nassau County, the Town of Hempstead and now with no plans for a new Coliseum in sight it’s patently absurd to suggest the County can attract any kind of professional team.

“Come for the aging building in disrepair, stay for the… uh…”

Furthermore, a major developer is again on record as turning a shoulder to the professional team the County does have. The appropriate response to the first part of Polimeni’s quote is ‘waiter, I’ll have what he’s having.’ It’s a bunch of garbage with the sole purpose of trying to minimize the Islanders. But the man likely doesn’t believe his own guff, quickly shifting to the possibility of not having professional sports at all. That’s probably how he would like it. Put another mall or set of condos on the Coliseum property and wipe our hands of any professional sporting arena. That’s what this County does. Condos and malls.

    * – Minor league baseball is always a possibility but those teams pop up in all areas of the country like some kind of mini-Walmart chain and hardly constitute the types of franchises we’re talking about here.
