Howard's on pace to break Brodeur's wins in a season record

They mentioned this a week ago, and he's certainly got a great chance.

    29 wins in 40 games.
    On pace for 49 wins (1 over Brodeur's 48)

Also on pace for 8 shutouts.

    Think he breaks it?

Probly not, but it's possible and I'd love to see it.

I really doubt he does. For one, I don't think he will get as many games as he has so far. Even if he does I think he will be too fatigued. We really should be resting him more than we have been.

Well, he'll be getting a little break during the ASG. They don't practice much, or too hard. Then he has the skills, possibly rookie game, and one period in the ASG.

I have faith he can at least tie Marty's record or come real freakin close. Not sure about the 8 SOs though, but hey, who knows?

Speaking of goaltenders, in the off-season, I wouldn't mind trying to aquire Steve Mason barring a cheap deal of some sort.

Who knows. Maybe he gets going again, and we use him in a trade. He's still very young, and had an incredible rookie season.

Mason really needs to play on a team that has a shot. I mean it's gotta be tough having to lug a team like the Jackets on your shoulders when you're so young. He would be a good fit backing up Howie. I'm for it. Get the ball rolling Branny.

Oh and when you put it that way about Howies SOs it would make sense for him to get 8. You win, you always do.

    Yeah, if we get Steve Mason, I'd like to have Joey MacDonald back too. Joey's a solid veteran, and can step in for 4-5 games a year when we need him. If Mason doesn't work, I'm sure there will be a free agent goaltender who could step up. Hell, I'd be fine with;

    Jimmy Howard
    Steve Mason/Manny Legace

McCollum has **** numbers in the AHL, and below average numbers in the ECHL. This guy was supossed to be something pretty good coming out of the OHL, but has fell down hill since he became a pro.

Like you said in previous threads, I would like either Biron or Nabokov as our backup. I guess I wouldn't mind Mason, though. Also, when will Mrazek come to Grand Rapids?

Isn't he eligible next year? I'd image he'd start off really slow. Possibly backing up in Grand Rapids, or playing in the ECHL.

I think Petr will play AHL. I mean we will bring him along slow but hell if he can't beat out McCollum then there is a problem.

I wouldn't want Legace just not a fan, Biron or Nabby would be my top 2. But I think the islanders will throw money at Nabby. Mason would be nice he is super young and we could give him the time to growth that he desperately needs.

I don't think Howie will make it simply because once we clinch our playoff spot I think we will let off the gas a little and let him, Nickand some other guys play less minutes. Oh I say clinch because I think we will win the division and have home ice. Just compare road vs away of the other teams in our conference And we have an advantage.

We'll probably be playing for the Central title down to our last three games... The Central is so tight this year.

Remember the times when it was the weakest in the NHL? Remember when the Preds were an average-crap team, the Hawks had Eric Daze as their go-to scorer, the Blues traded Pronger, and the Jackets best player was David Vborny? I do.

Now we have the Preds who I don't understand how they're ever a top ten team in the West on paper, the fast and up and coming Blues who have depth, the new franchise Hawks, and then, well, Columbus.

What continues to make me happy is our system is ranked like 14-17, which is crazy for a team that never gets high picks.

Former Norris runner-up Mike Green was used with our pick. .. As much as I'm not a fan of his style, he could have been a good PP specialist.
