Mets have seven commitments to buy shares of team

    http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/201...tments_to.html
NEW YORK — The Mets have commitments for seven of the 10 ownership shares of $20 million each they are trying to sell to pay off debt and raise capital.

The sale of the limited partnership units will not take place until all 10 can close at the same time, a person familiar with the negotiations said Wednesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because talks were ongoing.

New York owes $25 million to Major League Baseball, a loan whose repayment was extended from November until March, and $40 million to Bank of America.

The commitment for seven shares was first reported by Newsday. The Mets hope to be able to complete the sale in the next few weeks.

Wake me up when all of this is done and we can get back into talking about baseball rather than buying shares and stuff....

And aren't four of those the Mets buying the Mets (SNY)? Clearly, people aren't too keen on owning a 4% stake in a team when they have no power at all and have only a small ROI.

Katz (1), Jeff (1) and SNY (4) account for 6 of the 7 that I know of.

I may be wrong and I haven't been keeping track because frankly I'm fed up with this stuff, but weren't we "close" to selling a bunch of shares before? Are they just closing the sales or are these new commitments?

That hedge fund manager who is also trying to buy the Dodgers, but wants an in on the Mets is the other. Forget his name.

Shell game Mets. How appropriate they're playing this game, the Wilpon's are and always have been first and foremost -carnies.

Might be easier to sell after the Picard verdict is known—I don't know.

True, if the Wilpons have to pay enough to force a sale, and the Mets are sold for say the $1.5 billion the Dodgers price is up to now the 4% shares will be worth $60 million.

It's not very impressive when 4 shares are just taking money from SNY, and one from a guy who wants to buy the Mets (Cohen).

I guess not too many of their "friends" have a lot of faith in the Wilpons to turn this around, or they are afraid the Wilpons will hang on, and have to run the Mets like the A's for a few more years.

Maybe they should have offered bigger perks than just free parking and a visit with Mr Met.
