Just wanted to say that Chase Utley couldn't play 3B as a 24 year old, so we can probably nip that discussion in the bud...

I'm always impressed when parody songs are also really good on their own merit.

I'm listening to Fashion by Flight of the Conchords. It's a better 80's song then most 80's songs.

Maybe we can move the politics back to this thread? We ought to close the other one anyway.

I'm finding the whole "you didn't build that" thing very funny lately. I like watching interviews where a republican candidate starts going off about it and then the report reframes the question something like "So are you saying that entrepreneurs also built infrastructure?" The puzzled looks from that are priceless.

Moral of the story, if you make a bad sounding 3 second sound byte from a cogent statement your rallying cry, you will end up with egg on your face. Dems do it just as often, Kerry was a huge clown, this is just the latest clownery. Always listen to what your opposition actually said. Be prepared to cut them down on multiple levels.

Also, I tried to find Reince Priebus and it took me 3 spellings for Google to have any idea what I was talking about. I started with Rhiants Prebus and Google literally said "wtf are you asking me?" (not literally)

While we're on politics, can we just vote in Clinton instead? I mean it's been 12 years since he was in office, if we just surprise him with it, it shouldn't break the constitution...

My parents dislike Clinton too, I don't get it. He has the strongest credentials of any living politician in America. He's also one of the only unapologetic moderates left in this country.

I mean I know I have a soft spot for moderate technocrats, but I usually can play devil's advocate over anything (my gf hates that, she's progressive so I end up arguing very conservative ideas with her).

Anywho, what's the downside on Clinton? Where's the dislike coming from?

Sorry for clogging up the Trade Deadline Thread with politics!! I just get passionate about it and enjoy discussing. Ender I'm bringing your quote over from the last thread:

"Pretty much the main reason we fought the revolution. So, I don't want to split hairs over what is or isn't Judeo-Christian, suffice to say that religious freedom is a pillar our country was founded upon, and the idea of a free society where man can determine hi sown fate based on his own mettle is very Christlike.

Your Utopian idea of removing God from every government entity is fine, in theory. But in theory, Communism is also a great idea. It's when you start involving humans that these things all fall apart.

Anyway, religion is a huge part of our society. It may not be in 20, 30, 50 years. But it is today and it has been since 1776. Yes, there should be a separation of church and state, but that doesn't mean no church and all state."

I may be off-base here, but I believe the revolution was fought because of England trying to maintain control over the colonies and for economic reasons like taxation. The Pilgrims left England originally because of religious persecution which I think your confusing with this.

It's not that God has to be removed from society or anything like that. Everyone is free to worship whatever they want, however they want. Personally I think George Carlin's idea to worship Joe Pesci is the best religion out there haha. But a President can be a Christian or Muslim man and still make decisions that are not influenced by the "laws" of Christianity or Islam or pander to one specific religion over another.

Religion wants to govern morality on a lot of social issues and its just not fair that they can control the policy just because their book of stories tells them certain things are wrong. Also, A-Team I would love for Clinton to be allowed to run again... I miss him

I am no expert on this part of American History, but I am pretty sure the causes for the revolution were mainly (if not all) economic.

Free will is mentioned in the bible, but god basically says: "You have free will, but if you don't do as I say, you will burn in the depths of hell." So that's debatable.

Personally, and I can't speak for Illa or for A-Team, I don't care if my president/governor/senator etc., is Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Pagan, he could practice Santeria for all I care, as long as his decisions are not based/influenced by his belief instead of his rational thinking.

Actually, that's exactly what it means and how it should be. How can you guarantee freedom of religion with no bias to, say, Muslims, when you have Christianity (or any other religion) so indented into your government that some decisions are made based on it?

Don't you think that's kind of unfair?
