round up mid season ranking.
Thx, nice read. I really like our top 10. Some high-ceiling guys and some very good trade-chips. Very impressive that our farm looks great, even with the graduation of 3 highly touted kids (WMB, Kalish and Doubront)
My only issue is that only 1 of the top 10 prospects is indeed a pitcher.
I agree that our pitching depth in the minors is kinda "healthy" and maybe even better than that, but we are really missing all those blue-chip pitching specs. Even Ranaudo might only translate into a #3 (if at all), Barnes is straight and away the only real outstanding pitching spec.
I can see us dealing from strength (multiple 3B/OF-options on the farm) to get a promising young pitcher from someone else, like the Yanks did with the Montero trade.
I would love to see in the next 5 years we become a team that is full of our own homegrown talent and we don't trade a boat load of prospects for big names.
I would love to see these guys be long-term starters
DH: Lavarnway
2B: Marrero
SS: Iglesias
3B: Middlebrooks
LF: Boegarts
CF: Bradley
RF: Brentz/Nava

I think Dustin Pedroia will be a lifetime Red Sox, so I don't see second base being open for a while. But yeah, this is actually a very possible scenario.
With the new penalties that MLB is putting for teams that go over the $189 threshold, we could see teams like the Red Sox going with more home grown talent in the future, and less long term contracts. Which I love.
1st Tier: Barnes
2nd Tier: Ranaudo, Buttery, Light, Johnson, Tazawa, Wilson, Workman, Owens, Britton, Pimental.
3rd Tier: Noe Ramirez, Mickey Pena, Jamie Callahan, Austin Maddox, Frank Montas, Chris Hernandez, Cody Kukuk, Kieth Couch, Miguel Celestino.
We'll just have to wait and see how a lot of these guys progress.

Callahan, Montas and Kukuk are sleepers.
