Official Offseason thread.. Needs, Draft, FA, Etc...

its only right that i start this thread this week, being our last week of the 2011 season..
post all moves here, all draft, FA, and personell moves here..
let me start by asking everyone's opinion on who needs to get cut?
    who should stay?
who is starter material? who is a backup?
what positions need upgrade? what players are starter material or have potential but need Development? where Do we need Depth? Etc......

let me start by giving the guys that need to go:
David anderson, Terrance austin, John beck, brandon banks, erik cook, keyaron fox, sean locklear, rocky mcintosh, rob myers, richard quinn, mike sellers, darrion scott, doug worthington, byron chris baker, kedric gholsten, philip bucannon and westbrook.

guys we should try to trade and get something for:
Fred Davis(maybe we can get a 2nd or 3rd rounder or package him to move up for RG3 or luck
Donte Stallworth(ill take a 10th rounder for him)
    Chris Cooley

    guys we should keep (with potential);
Aldrick (takes austin's spot), hurt, balmer, Gano, nield, and thompson

As for starters i believe our front 7 on defense Is set.. We should get a guy to groom behind fletcher like we did riley. aside from that, we are one of the deepest defensive fronts in the NFL.

We are Set At Safety with laron and otogwe.. We just need to get healthy and we do have good depth there with doughty and Gomes.

We do need A starter at CB opposite Wilson because Hall is more of a slot CB. we also need depth at CB. FA is definitly an option

on offense We need a Starter opposite Hankerson. a speed guy like streeter or Wright in the 2nd-4th round range. i say hankerson because i think Gaffney and Moss are nothing but depth and possession guys at this stage of their careers similar to donald Driver. aldrick, paul, and armstrong are nothing more than depth.. and 2 of them(maybe all 3) will probably get cut.

I think we are set At RB and FB.. Royster, hightower, and helu is more than enough. young is a great FB, and if cooley stays, he can serve as a FB as well.

IMO we need a TE. Davis is one piss-test away from a year-long ban, and i prefer a finley or grahm type guy anyways.. i think we should definitly target someone early.. 4th or 5th.. plus paulsen is not exactly our aaron hernandez to davis.

LT, center, RG, and RT are set..
I think Willie smith has shown enough promiss that he can be a reliable starter at RT in the future once we move on from brown since he was thrown into the wolves and did pretty well.
everyone will probably disagree, but i think hurt can develop into a good LG, especially with a full-offseason, mini-camps, OTA's, Training camp, etc...
if not lichtensteiger should be fully health by the start of camp..
i would not mind adding a Benn grubbs or carl nicks either but they will be pricey.look for shanny to draft someone in the 6th-7th anyways.. i think our OL coaches have outdone themselves this year and they can coach up late picks into starters

we need a new return specialist.. maybe we draft one this year.

LAST but not least, we need a new QB. IMO, we need 2. RG3 or luck, then a backup like kyle orton, A.J feeley, chad henne...maybe a 7th rounder like kellen moore, or dominique davis as luck or rg3's backup. heck ill take anyone as the back-up qb but Rex.. i think we have suffered enough.

I say we keep Brandon Banks. And you haven't even seen Aldrick Robinson play yet, and you want to keep him. Doubt we'll trade Davis or Cooley. We need good TE's. We'll certainly get rid of some WR's. Maybe Armstrong and some others. QB is the most pressing need followed by WR. I trust Shanny and staff to do some good stuff.

Why would you get rid of both Davis and Cooley?

davis is a liability...but cooley is done...might as well get something in return and draft a TE in the mid rounds... as for aldrick, i said give him austin's spot.. austin improved significantly last year, but just lacks the athleticism to produce.. aldrick has all the athleticism in the world and if he develops he can be good... if not, cut him too... i really dont care

I think we should keep banks, fox and westbrook. I'm thinking Cooley or Davis will be traded. Kyle uses mostly 1 TE sets and I'm sure we'll try to get some more picks this year. I think that we should trade back if RG3 isn't available at whatever pick we end up with, and then draft the 3rd best QB in the draft. I'm thinking our biggest needs are at CB and a solid play maker at the WR position, we should fill them through FA and/or the draft. Who's with me?

i disagree.. none of our needs is bigger than QB... we will end up giving up a lot if we trade for RG3 or luck, but we will still have most of our picks... we will have another draft like last year to get a few starters in the 3rd or 4th rounders... thats where we get our WR's, CB;s, etx...

definitly would not mind Royal and Clady.. idk if clady is going anywhere thou.. he was the best LT in the game under shanahan.. bringing him in is a bit of a dream, but you never know..the broncos could be crazy enough to let him go.
beadles is decent but only if he is a FA.. and green has potential but was passed on till the 7th for a reason..

via Grant Paulsen on twitter "Mike Shanahan on evaluating 10 to 15 college QBs so far: Takes half hour a day, early AM, watches 75/80 passing plays in game-situations.

So Shanahan has already evaluated 10-15 college QB's. The last QB he picked in the first round was Jay Cutler, he passed on Gabbert because he didn't like his skills. So maybe he knows what he's doing.

He also thought we were a playoff team with McNabb and that Jon Beck is a legit starter in this league. Howd that work out.

Hes been hit or miss with QBs.

I am definitely one that thinks we should do what ever it takes to get Luck or RG3 but I was just thinking about the other options and you have to feel good that regardless, we WILL have a young talented QB next year. With the depth Shanny is building in all areas, things are definitely looking good for the future. We cut some of the old weight in the WR's position, draft a couple more to learn under Moss, Gaffney, Hankerson, Paul, & Robinson. We have great RB depth but I am sure Shanny will draft one late. We definitely keep either Cooley or Davis but maybe draft a replacement late. The exciting thing about this draft is almost all the positions we need are LOADED!!!!! I think we keep Beck as a backup which I don't mind because he is a great clubhouse guy and knows the system and knows his place. Again, I still have the stance of doing whatever we can to get in position to snag Luck or RG3 but either way, we are going to take a turn next year and this draft is going to be exciting to watch!

    Washington Redskins Offseason:

The Washington Redskins have been one of the most dissapointing franchises since 1991 when they last won their 3rd Superbowl. The Redskins have failed to draft players and develope within the organization. We all know that.... The Redskins have gone from the rough and rugged RFK Stadium to a 90,000 seat stadium in the middle of now where... 1hour from Washington D.C., that fills more fans from the opposing teams then it does for Redskins Fans. The Washington Redskins fan base is weak, people have lost faith with the organization. Who can blame them...?

Dan Snyder has ruiened this team and it won't get any better until he leaves. Mike Shanahan is a great coach, his son Kyle as offensive coordinator is not working out... If there is anyone that needs to go on the coaching staff its him. Jim Haslett is a good defensive coordinator and has done well trasnsitioning this team to a 3-4 Defense. The only problem is that the Redskins are on the field for maybe 3-8 plays per drive before they stall out and have to punt the ball.

Here is what the Redskins need this Offseason:

#1 A Franchise QB- (Trade up in the draft for) Luck or RG3 (Do whatever it takes!!)

#2 Get an OL- Draft another Tackle or Guard or sign one in FA (Carl Nicks, Chris Myers or Demetrius Bell)

#3 Draft or Sign a true #1 wide receiver. (Desean Jackson, Wes Welker, Vincent Jackson, Reggie Wayne, Marques Colston) We need to make a run at one or two of these guys. (Moss has never been a true #1 wideout, he is a slot reciever!!!)

#4 Draft a CB or sign one in FA.

#5 Resign ILB: London Fletcher to a two year contract what ever price he wants!! He is worth it.

#6 Draft an ILB in the 2nd or 3rd Round to learn and develope from Fletcher for 2 years

#7 Trade TE: Chris Cooley for a few draft picks 3rd, 4th, or 5th. (My Favorite Redskin on the roster, but its time for him to go)

    #8 Resign P: Sav Rocca

#9 Release K: Graham Gano!! Sign a kicker!! (Neil Rackers, Rian Lindell, Jay Feely)

#10 Release QB's: John Beck and Rex Grossman!! (New Era in Washington, they have got to go!!)

#11 Sign a Veteran Quarterback in FA. Make a run at Peyton Manning if his option is declined by Indy, make a run at Drew Brees... Doubtful he will leave NO, but if he is on the market, make a run..... If not sign a decent QB like Kyle Orton so he can teach the Rookie QB for a season or two.

#12 Sign a few key players like Linebacker: D'Qwell Jackson, or a Defensive Line player like: Robert Mathis (Dosent have to be these guys, but bring in some key players that will help deveople the younger players)

    #13 DRAFT PLAYERS!!!!!!!!

#14 Tare down Fed Ex Field!!! Tear down RFK stadium and bring the Washington Redskins back into Washington D.C. where they belong. Build a new retractable roof stadium where RFK was and move Redskins park next to RFK. (Doubt this will happen anytime soon, but it needs to be done)

If the Redskins can do any of these things, they will be alot better off... It all comes down to whether or not this Franchise wants to rebuild the right way or the wrong way... we have made a few good steps since the whole Fat Albert incident but its time to make bigger steps. Hopefully one day we can all celebrate again in the streets of Washington D.C. with our team driving bye holding a 4th Super Bowl Trophy....
