Yeah, I hear ya. I live over here in Spain and there is some talk already of him being ready to challenge for the ACB MVP, which ain't shabby at all. As you rightly say he is putting up excellent numbers for his age in the 2nd best league in the world with only 24-26 minutes per game. He has had off nights to be sure but the improvement in his offensive game is taking off this year. I don't see the Bulls being able to afford (The CBA does not allow more than 500K to be paid for International players IIRC) his buyout from Real Madrid until the summer of 2014.

    For that game? Nope:

stretching his production out as if he played 36 minutes, he would have had 24 points and 8 rebounds.

There's that 20/10 PF we've been looking for.

Man, I hope Real Madrid is flexible with the Bulls on that buyout when the time comes for him to come over.

Definitely. Mirotic also seemed like he got more athletic. He moves gracefully on the court and obviously highly skilled. He seems to have that burning desire to improve all aspects of his game and the intangibles to translate his game to the next level. Since you're from Spain, how would compare Mirotic to a young Pau Gasol?

Would Mirotic being compared to a Kevin McHale/Detlef Schrempf hybrid be fair? Intelligent players who can shoot, post-up, have decent footwork, and gives effort on D.

If you factor in accomplishments, off-course Mirotic has a thousand miles ahead of him if he chases Dirk. I know for a fact that Dirk is the greatest Euro of all time. My comparison is solely based on talent alone, and I'm referring to the Dirk at the age of 21. Both players had maturity for their age. Dirk was playing for a Dallas Mavs team that did not make the playoffs, while Niko is playing for one of the best teams in the Euro-League and currently the best team in the Spanish League. In a seven game series, Niko's current Real Madrid team can compete with the 2000 Dallas Mavs.

Here are their similarities at the age of 21 (IMO)
    -high basketball iq
-shooting touch that goes beyond the 3 pt. range
-ability to put the ball on the floor and draw fouls
    -good post moves
    -decent mid-range
    -average rebounders
    -solid foot work
    -skinny but has good frame
-relatively weak vs seasoned nba pf's
-have the ability to go inside-out
-dirk seems a little bit more athletic than Niko

    Dirk: 7'0 237
    Niko: 6'10 231 7'1 wingspan

Dirk is a little bit taller than Niko. I'm not sure what Dirk's wingspan is though. But again, their frame at the same age are pretty identical.

    Dirks 2000 stats:
MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
    35.8 6.3 13.6 .461 1.4 3.7 .379 3.5 4.2 .830 1.2 5.2 6.5 2.5 0.8 0.8 1.7 3.1 17.5

    Per 36 Minutes:
MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
    2938 6.3 13.7 .461 1.4 3.7 .379 3.5 4.3 .830 1.2 5.3 6.5 2.5 0.8 0.8 1.7 3.1 17.6

    PER: 17.5

Niko's Current Stats in the Euro-League
Min Pts FG FGA FG% 3Pt 3PtA 3P% FTM FTA FT% Off Def TOT Asts Stls Blks TOs PFs
    24.4 12.4 4.4 8.9 50.0 0.9 3.0 28.6 2.7 3.6 76.0 1.6 3.6 5.1 0.7 0.7 0.7 1.7 2.4

    Per 40 Minutes:
Min Pts FG FGA FG% 3Pt 3PtA 3P% FTM FTA FT% Off Def TOT Asts Stls Blks TOs PFs
    24.4 20.4 7.3 14.5 50.0 1.4 4.9 28.6 4.4 5.8 76.0 2.6 5.8 8.4 1.2 1.2 1.2 2.8 4.0

    PER: 20.0

As you can see, their statistics are a lot similar. Remember that Niko is playing for a Real Madrid team that has a very consistent rotation. No one surpasses playing over 26 minutes and the ball is consistently shared. Niko does not average the same amount of FG attempts as Dirk did at the same age. Keep in mind that Euro-ball allows you to run zone, where as in the NBA, things free-up for players like Niko. In his first two games vs NBA competition, Niko averaged a respected 33 MPG 15 PPG and 9 RPG. Dirk's first two games vs NBA competition with significant minutes 33 MPG 15 PPG 10 RPG.

Look I'm not trying to say Nikola Mirotic is the next Dirk Nowitzki the HOF. I'm saying Nikola Mirotic is similar to a young Dirk Nowitzki. No one ever thought Dirk would become the player he is today when he was at the age of 21. If you told me that Dirk will win an MVP and Finals MVP during his second year in the league, I will probably think your delirious. I can't tell what's ahead for Niko. All I know he's a savvy big-man who can score and has smooth game for a PF. Off-course every Euro big-man who can shoot and has tons of potential will somehow be compared to Dirk, because Dirk set the bar for all Euro players who can shoot. But them panning out to become one, is another story. So many athletic wing who can score and is about 6'6 is compared to MJ. Vince Carter, LeBron, Kobe, T-Mac, and etc. But they will never surpass Jordan. I believe same goes with Dirk. I don't think there is any Euro big-man who can surpass his Future HOF career, not even Niko. Unless off-course the impossible happens. Since we like comaprisons, I think Nikola has the potential to be the "Kobe" to Dirk's "MJ".

It's extremely hard to compare stats from different leagues, especially from a different league over a decade ago (the NBA of 2000) and today (Euroleague of 2012)

personally, i think he'll be like a Gallo type player but who plays the 4 more consistently. Which is still great for the Bulls imo.

I actually think if Mirotic gets stronger, things will open up with him in the NBA. Not like the EuroLeague where the zone and packing the paint is allowed.
