Bernie Miklasz posted some things I didn't know about the Cardinals finances.

Updated with Skips official salary. Payroll for the 1st 21 players signed right now is 93.285M. Factor in that the backup Catcher is going to be a bryan anderson type, add another $440k. The payroll they have for the 25 man has about 16m left. If they can unload Westbrook/Lohse, that number could grow by another 20M+... They could really and realistically afford a big name bat, like a Prince Fielder. Even if its not this year, next year they would have enough to sign any player they want...

I think the Cardinals should be going after Cuddyer! With the Twins close to signing Willingham we just have to make him an offer close to what the Rockies are offering.

The reason I like Beltran over Cuddyer is his defense, his ability to play center, and that he is a switch hitter.
That, and he may not require a three year deal.
Cuddyer can play first and third, but we don't really need that.
To those that do not know mathematics it is difficult to get across a feeling as to the beauty, the deepest beauty of baseball. If you want to learn about baseball, to appreciate baseball, it is necessary to understand the language she speaks.
You need to remember that they are paying a full 40 man roster at least 440k.
You might as well make 22-40 - 440k until something else changes (which we still have to work out a deal with Motte and McClellan still as well). I would list MLBTR arb estimates for each for now.
EDIT: Went ahead and did this

bpm, I hope you don't mind, but I went ahead and updated everything to show the full 40 man roster, which needs to be accounted for when discussing next season.

A lot does depend how much McClellan and Motte make in 2012, I think it's important to try and lock up Motte for a few years while they still can for cheap though.
We should have around 7 million or so to spend on a loogy and on outfield depth. I'm sure there is some wiggle room of course, but I'm not sure how much is really there.

The Payroll is for 25 guys. Not every guy on the 40 man makes 440k... Those guys that have under a year of service in the majors make $67,300 or guys that have no ML service time, they make $33,700. So, for this sake, we are looking at a 25 man total.
