    Mets on Nathan's Radar

    Joe Nathan told Newsday on Saturday that he would be open to signing with the Mets this offseason.

    The Twins declined Nathan's $12.5 million option for 2012 on Tuesday, making him a free agent. He went to high school and college in New York, and wouldn't mind returning to the state to finish out his career. "The Mets are going to be on my radar," the right-hander said. "It's a team I followed growing up around this area. That would be exciting."

    Yeah I saw that, just hope that is he signs here he actually does well.

    I doubt that at 37 after a major injury he will, but stranger things have happen.

    Plan the parade

    I hope we sign him. I don't want Alderson expending too much on bullpen and Nathan can't demand much.

    I really hope we sign him, he's still got plenty in the tank and should do well here. He throws harder than K-Rod, so that's definitely a plus lol

    No, I'd rather get him and keep him for the next couple of years, it really depends on how he pitches.

    He was horrible when he first came back last year until he went on the DL May 23rd...Came back at the end of June, and pitched well the rest of the season...

    Post all star break:
    3.91 ERA; 1.00 WHIP; .207 Batting average allowed; 11 saves; 1 hold;

    July (part of July came before A/S Break):
    0.79 ERA; 0.53 WHIP; .150 BAA; 5 saves; 5 holds (so those 5 saves were after the A/S break, but he had 4 additional holds prior to the A/S break);

    June (2 games after a month on DL):
    4.50 ERA; 0.50 WHIP; .143 BAA; 1 Hold (2 innings of work, gave up 1 hit, but it was a HR, had 2 K's and no walks);

    Certainly one RP to consider.

    My Vote For 2014 Mets Starting SS.

    I'd sign Nathan, assuming his price is right. And since that right price is fairly low, I'd sign Broxton as well. Broxton can't expect much more than an incentive laden contract with a base of $1 - 2 million. Use Broxton to set up Nathan or alternate closer if healthy.

    I'd definitely like to see him with the Mets next year. I think he can still pitch effectively and I think he can still be a good closer. I could definitely see him with the Mets next year.

    im sure broxton will sign with a team willing to use him as a closer, but your idea isnt bad either
