Kiprusoff New Franchise Record for Wins|CGY|home

MONTREAL, QC -- With the Calgary Flames defeat over the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 4-1, netminder Miikka Kiprusoff has set a new franchise record for career victories with 263 wins.

"He's a very good goaltender," head coach Brent Sutter said on Thursday. "He's constant. He's very consistent, for the most part, in how he prepares and everything he does.

"He's a true professional in every way, shape and form."

The 34 year-old has played in 484 games with the Flames. Vernon reached 262 wins after playing in 526 contests.

He has been an absolute workhorse since being traded to Calgary by San Jose on Nov. 16, 2003 for conditional draft pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He's averaged 74 games per season over the course of the past six years and has put in 52 games for the Flames in the postseason.

Flames captain Jarome Iginla expressed his admiration for his netminder after Calgary's pre-game skate in Montreal.

"We've been extremely fortunate to have him in net and it's been very good for us."

Kiprusoff's illustrious career includes a bronze medal with Finland in the 2010 Winter Olympics, winning the Vezina Trophy in the 2005-06 campaign, being named a finalist for the Hart Trophy when the 2005-06 season concluded, snagging the William Jennings Trophy in 2005-06, two silver medals at the World Championships (1999 & 2001), a silver medal at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and a trip Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004.
