Had the T-wolves kept Ray Allen instead of Marbury, do they win a title with KG/Allen

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/NBA_1996.html

Would the KG/Ray Allen combo had won any titles in Minnesota?

Obviously they wouldn't have a good shot until probably 1999 and forward as thru 1998 Marbury was the better player. But do you see a KG/Ray duo winning a title from 1999 thru 2005 or any of those years?

They had Isiah Rider, who was looking like a stud and only in his second year. It would have been stupid to keep Ray Allen at the time.

It's a hypothetical question, obviously. Yes, I think KG and Allen would have won a few titles.

Thank you for keeping the NBA forum alive with your threads JB. Maybe 1. The West would have been very difficult to get past still.

Rider was gone after the 95-96 season. That wasnt the issue.

I think they could have challenged SA/LAL/DAL as WC representation in the finals from 2003-2007. With the right supporting cast prime KG and Allen could have gotten a title from 2003-2007.

It is certainly possible. But we will never know. Another 'NBA What-If Mystery'.

Still not good enough to beat prime Spurs or Lakers...... Probably not prime Sacramento or Portland either.

Its not like Minny had a garbage team all those years anyway but the West was just ridiculously stacked from like 99-05

Yes, and sadly they wouldn't have ever have came to Boston. But good thing the T-Wolves traded him.

By 2001, 2002 they clearly could have.

I disagree, that team wasn't all that. Not like they had an all time great player on it.

I agree with Bruno here. Lakers in the early 2000s were that damn good. They could have knocked off a Spurs/Mavs/later Lakers team and stolen a title in the middle of the decade. Even with Allen finally getting more respect as an all-time great I still think he's slightly underrated. He and KG cover each others weaknesses very well and are both willing passers. Each would both instantly become the best teammates each other would have had and they would have no choice but to have more success with each other.
