Manny Legace and Steve Begin invited to camp

The Vancouver Canucks will give goaltender Manny Legace and forward Steve Begin tryout contracts for training camp, the team announced on Wednesday.

Legace, 38, spent last season playing in Germany. Prior to that, he racked up 365 NHL games in net with Los Angeles, Detroit, St. Louis and Carolina. He posted 24 career shutouts, a 2.41 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.

The 33-year-old Begin has scored 52 goals and 48 assists in 488 NHL games, with 539 penalty minutes. He's played for Calgary, Montreal, Dallas, Boston and Nashville.

He played two games with the Predators in 2010-11, spending most of his time in the American Hockey League.

The Canucks announced last month that gritty veteran forwards Owen Nolan and Todd Fedoruk would be given a chance to crack the club in training camp.

Last season, Brendan Morrison tried out for a second stint on the Canucks. He was let go, but soon found a home with the Calgary Flames.

Vancouver's camp opens on Sept. 16.

Begin use to be one of the best 4th line agitators in the league with Montreal, then sucked with Dallas, was very vanilla in Boston and I think only played a game in the NHL last year, although I heard he was one of Milwauke's best forwards in the playoffs

Legace has to be AHL and insurance. That's all on that. Steve Begin is an interesting player. He has some good attributes similar to someone I would compare to Dan Paille.
