I want to see what the others agree on first. I don't care we need to be clear on this.
The whole career would be much easier, but kind of cheap. Sure, they might have played their final years with the Yankees, like Strawberry and Fielder, etc, but that doesn't mean their best years came as a Yankee, so why should we be able to use their years with the Mets and Tigers or whatever?
I'd prefer make it a players entire career, regardless of team simply because I think that the teams will be much more competitive this way.

I think the best option is a consecutive stretch of 3 years or 5 years. GMs would take the player's prime years. The fun part is building a team around a guy like Mantle who had some insane years in his prime. Who wants to factor in the years he broke down towards the end of his career.
But if these are the only 2 options then I would prefer one year.... and the player must be a yankee that particular year.
