He's not better than Malone, that much I'll say. Malone had seasons where he averaged over 30ppg & 11rpg+ nearly 5apg and on insane efficiency. He had 18 straight 20ppg+ seasons, which in it of itself is amazing.

To me just because Dirk won a title doesn't leapfrog him over some all time great's like Malone & Barkley.

I wouldn't put him above Barkley either, CB was a MUCH better rebounder, and a great passer for a big man, again seasons of 5apg+ and 4 for his career.

Duncan has so many titles that its hard to not put him #1, but ONE title to me doesn't leapfrog Dirk over the other guys.

PF is such a hard position to rank since it can be played so differently. I never got to see guys like Hayes, Pettit or Debusschere but their numbers are pretty crazy. Out of the guys I saw, I'd go:

    1. TD
    2. KG
    3. Barkley
    4. Malone
    5. Dirk
    6. Rodman
    7. McHale
    8. Webber
    9. Pau
    10. Tom Chambers

I'd actually consider Duncan a center, but regardless, Dirk is top 10, but not top 5. Too many others (besides Duncan) like KG, Barkley, Malone, Pettit, McHale, Hayes, Rodman.

Duncan was stuck at PF by his team but still played the position like a center. He stays on the block, has no perimeter game, and doesn't run the floor. It's a shame people always give him the #1 ranking at the position he technically doesn't even play. He'd be like 7th or 8th on the all time center list.

Mchale wasn't better than Barkley nor Dirk. You are crazy if you believe that. Hell he was barely better than Gasol.

Why would that matter? For instance when comparing guys like Magic, Bird, ShaqKobe, Oscar, Hakeem, how is it you can rank Magic and Bird and Shaq over Kobe and Hakeem despite them not being good defenders?

    1. Duncan
2/3/4/5 in any order depending on the day - Malone/Barkley/Dirk/KG

KG had the best defense, but had the least amount of success as the man on a team.

my list follow Fundamental would be:
    2. KG (Defense is sooo far ahead of everyone elses)
    3. Barkley
    4. Karl Malone
    5. Dirk Nowitzki

But thats just me, as stated several times, 2-5 are very debatable and can be swapped depending on what one values and what kind of players you like.

Generally speaking Bird is considered top 6 all time.

    He has 3 titles, 3 league mvp's and 2 finals mvp's.

However Shaq, Duncan and Hakeem in a way resumes are as good as well.

Shaq has 4 titles, 1 league mvp and 3 finals mvp and more statistically dominant
Duncan has 4 titles, 2 league mvp and 3 finals mvp's
Hakeem has 2 titles, 1 league mvp, 2 finals mvp's and 2 DPOY
Why would you mention Hakeem's DPOY awards in this thread if defense doesn't matter?

It matters because it's half the game. IF Dirk had half the defensive impact of Garnett he'd likely have more than 1 MVP and FMVP trophy on his mantle.

Defense matters regardless. Dirk wasn't on the same level of Bird and Magic overall and even so Bird and Magic accolades, stats (especially their peak), and the competition in which they faced (in the Finals in which they won/lost) were all greater than Kobe and Hakeem. That is why they are viewed as better players.

Shaq was no slouch on D he was quite capable not on Dream's or D-Rob's level but certainly a considerable notch above Dirk.

Dirk is a great offensive performer regular season and playoffs and in the playoffs he's a much better rebounder but what else does he bring? Shaq brought rebounding and a level of dominance matched by very few. Bird and Magic are two of the most overall complete offensive players in the history of the game, if they weren't shooting it other aspects of their offensive game would make up for it. Can the same be said for Dirk?

If you don't think D should be considered then that's fine but D is exactly why TD is at #1 and Dirk is being debated around the top 5.
