ESPN: Canucks have the 2nd worst future

    The Canucks, at No. 29:

Like the Red Wings, the Canucks have seen their high draft picks limited by their contending for the President's Cup each year. Unlike Detroit, they have not found as much value elsewhere in the draft. And now the Canucks will feel it in their prospect pool. This year's selections -- forward Nicklas Jensen (29th overall) and goaltender David Honzik (71st overall) -- give them a chance to overcome their lack of depth. Jordan Schroeder(notes) (22nd overall, 2009) and Cody Hodgson(notes) (10th overall, 2008) are coming along slowly and cannot be counted out just yet.

Interesting that a system that boasts two players with boundless potential Schroeder and Hodgson could be ranked so low. Add in Anton Rodin, and while the Canucks only six top prospects by ESPN's count they might deserve a slightly higher ranking.

But this is about depth, and the Canucks aren't the deepest in the minor leagues ... with the potential for other busts like Sergei Shirokov.

So Anna, what do you think about the notion that Russell Wilson is better than Andrew Luck?

Still too early to be ranking these guys. I have to admit though that I'm getting a little antsy about waiting so long for them to get some big league time. Also, for the last few drafts Gillis went very small with his draft choices at forward, only to apparently be making a 180 and getting big, gritty 3rd and 4th liners this off season.

    A. Its from ESPN, what do they know about anything, let alone hockey.
    B. a couple weeks ago puckdaddy posted something about top 25 defencemen, included Brent Burns, Alex Pietrangelo, and Erik Johnson in the top 10 but did NOT include Enstrom, Michalek, Visnovsky, Giordano, Bieksa, Regehr, Orpik, Streit, Timonen, etc. Also included Victor Hedman 25th.
    C. They certainly aren't that low just on name value alone. Maybe not any better than like 21-23 but definitely not that low.

How a system that includes Hodgson and Schroeder alone let alone Rodin, Connauton, Lack, and just added Jensen could be ranked below the Flames (who outside of Sven Baertschi, might not have a single prospect that projects as a top 6 forward or top 4 defenceman, or a starting goaltender, not to mention that they have almost no future on their roster), the Jets (who already had a ****** system and then botched their first round pick on Mark Schiefele), and Sharks (who without Charlie Coyle and no firsts, might not have a single prospect that will ever play in the NHL) is beyond me.

Its not Puck Daddy Mcjoe its Sonier who does know whwat he is talking about.

Few understand imo that in alot of ways in terms of draft/prospects and advanced stats "Insider" on ESPN is farther ahead than most of the mainstream media.

I would rank their website analysis well ahead of Yahoo or TSN
