Hodgson will get his chance -- Kesler out 3 months

Vancouver, BC Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that centre Ryan Kesler had successful hip labral surgery.

“After consultation with our team physicians following the playoffs, it was deemed that Ryan would require a procedure on his hip,” said President and General Manager, Mike Gillis. “We expect a full recovery and determined this procedure would best serve both Ryan and the team’s long term goals.”

Kesler will be available to media at a future date

At least he won't miss many regular season games. But, I'm really excited to see what Cody can do in a top 6 role.

That's a pretty optimistic approach SF! Especially as we know how much you like Kesler. Good way to think about it: maybe this gives Cody the break he needs to establish himself at the NHL level.
"When you have limitations and you understand your limitations and you stay within yourself, you can be great," Kobe Bryant said. "You know what you can do and what you can't do. In America, it's a big problem for us because we're not teaching players how to play all-around basketball. That's why you have Pau and Marc [Gasol], and that's the reason why 90 percent of the Spurs' roster is European players, because they have more skill."

It will hopefully raise Codys trade value. Having Malhotra healthy allows Cody to focus on offense. I think this could work well.

Kind of sad but a good opportunity.

A hip injury can riddle into the regular season. I have little doubt that Kesler will do everything he can to be ready for a repeat season.

My question is: why did Kesler wait over a month after the playoffs ended before dealing with the bad hip? I hope he won't lose any speed and will still be able to play with the same grit once he returns. As for Hodgson, I'm not very optimistic. He's had many opportunities to play with the big boys and he looks out of place, if not invisable. I guess this is a chance for the team to showcase him, for a trade later.

Hes always on the 4th line. Now he'll have better linemates and hes finally healthy.
