Currently the Capitals have 8 defensemen under contract and are over the cap by <900k. If we assume that Poti is done with the Caps (either by his own volition or not), we would be under the cap by 1.985mil.
If we moved Schultz, it would free up a total of nearly 4mil but would leave us only 6 signed defensemen. Would you bring Hannan back for a 1 year deal since he is still on the market? Or are you happy with the 7 defenseman that are currently signed?
If not Hannan, realistically, what D-Man would you want Washington to sign?
Realistically, Schultz is not going to get moved. That's McPhee's project that he won't give up on. We have eight defensemen (I'm including Collins and I'm not including Orlov). So there isn't going to be another defenseman for depth. Orlov should probably get a few games this season if we hit the injury plague on the backend.
