According to PFT. Virtual tie with Bengals, who have $20.5 to lead the league. About half the teams have less than $5 million remaining. Probably means the club can add a few bargain free agents, with less cap space competition.
Just wondering who is out there that might be interesting. Maybe they save their dollars in case a top player becomes available for some reason prior to the start of the season. Longshot possibility would be working a deal with Pittsburgh where Mike Wallace signs a contract with them and then is traded for less than the free agent tag. If the Steelers can't afford Wallace, and don't want him there unhappy, they may be inclined to sign him for another team, then deal him for lower or future picks.
I'm not saying Gene would do it, but it could also facilitate trading for players who are salary cap burdens for their team. I can't think of anyone in particular, but it'd have to be an end or receiver if he were to consider it (as well as one heck of a bargain in the trade).
Also, don't forget about Pot Roast as well as maybe a Daryl Smith extension.
