I have read that Schultz may have be interested in coming here as well just not sure where wasn't on espn though. I would be all for adding him, at that point mdz or erixon may could be packaged for a solid return. Its obvious that Schultz is not going to sign in Anaheim or he would have when they were still in the hunt.

I do not want to move MDZ at all, he is our ONLY offensive minded defense-men.

im going to have to respectfully disagree with you there. granted, Girardi and Sauer (if we ever see him again) never produce offense, and Stralman and Eminger havent fit their 'some offense' billing, but I think Staal before he went down last year was showing some real flashes of offense, and McD certainly shows offensive ability.

i wish i had a count for the amount of times hes either pinched deep to help create goals or scored a clutch one or made a great pass (3rd period of last weeks game, Winnipeg i think?).

Plus the "trading DZ" thing isnt guaranteed, but this Schultz kid is supposed to be 90% offense, his D is coming into form. read: he's going to be another DZ. if you can sell high with another asset waiting in the wings, not always the worst thing.

people need to remember, stockpiling talent is great for our organization, and heaven knows we've waited a long time to see a team as deep as this, but all of these kids arent going to be able to play on the pro team. eventually you package a few to pull in something that really benefits your team, that's part of the strategy of a winning organization and i think were really starting to get there.

oh, and Kreider in Frozen 4 vs Minny on Thursday. ill be watching that more than the Rangers, especially if we lock 1st down tonight.

oh i completely agree. i think DZ is too important to the growth of the team. I'm just saying we'd be naive to think that the Rangers havent at least considered it, especially if this kid Schultz is on board.

None of Staal, McDonagh, DelZotto or Girardi are gonna be moved...that's our core D.

Let me start with I was the one last year who said that MDZ would be back in the NHL and his career was not over as stated by many people on here. I dont think he would be offerred up for just anybody or right away. But there are some things to look at.

IMO, if Shultz is brought in their intention is to put him with Mcdonagh. Schultz is an offensive defenseman with a right handed shot (which girardi staal mcdonagh mdz and erixon are not), that is important for the pp. If Shultz is brought in and works (which with 2 former teammates stepped in pretty good, yes Mcdonagh had AHL time but has continued to grow), MDZ on a bottom pair could be moved for a missing piece at that time.

I dont believe that every player that wears a Ranger jersey during his rookie year becomes untouchable. I believe when Staal comes back next year him and Girardi will be reunited and continue the role they left off on as the top shut down pair. They will play about 25 mins a game. Then Mcdonagh and line mate play roughly 20 minutes a game. Leaving about 15 minutes for the bottom pair defense. Again I dont think that MDZ would be gone right away but if they sign Shultz, but if they need to improve else where some ones going to be moved or not resign when their restricted years end because thy dont want to be a bottom pair their entire career.

btw we draft a kid in the first round....he is living up to his talent, and is growing as a defensemen.....yea lets trade him away when he reminds people of leetch, brilliant idea

btw you can never not have enough defensemen.....theres no way to tell if sauer will ever be back, if girardi can continue playing the way he has and if staal will ever return to the form he had....its naive to think we trade away mdz

I guess im naive. How many members of the presidents trophy 92 Rangers had their name on the 94 cup. I know Tony Amonte was traded. As for MDZ being the next Brian Leetch, but down the Sam and Joe Koolaid. If there is a better piece out there then they will get him. A note about Justin Shultz in 3 years has 8 less goals then Kreider as a defenseman, but has more assists.

Does anyone know the likelihood of Kreider signing for the playoffs? I am kind of worried he is gonna go back to BC for his senior season and we are gonna face losing him. Some article I read on him today said if he goes back to BC that he can become a FA after next year, although maybe I misinterpreted. Anyone have anything on this?

im not arguing that we shouldnt sign shultz.....my problem is that gilroy was supposed to be the same type of player and it never translated.....mdz is producing in the nhl at the same age shultz currently is

I agree, sign him, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Shultz would have to become something pretty special to be better than DelZotto now, not saying he can't be but really that's some pretty big expectations for a guy who hasn't even played in the AHL yet.

In my first post about Shultz I did say, i dont expect MDZ moved right away but down the line if they were to sign Shultz. I have high expectations for Shultz because of his former teammates that have played for Wisconsin. Of course there is Steps and Mcdonagh, there is also Jake Gardiner (toronto) and Jamie Mcbain (hurricanes). All have performed well in the NHL. Schultz had more goals per season then any of these players. Being that Schultz is a right handed defensman, which the rangers dont have, it would be a great idea to grab him. IMO If they do and he works out, it would limit MDZs role and ice time. That is why I feel down the road it could make MDZ expendable. Similar to Dubis (who has played better as of late) role if Kreider steps in and works out.

Ya, but DZ has improved his defensive game to the point where you'd more likely get rid of someone else than him. IMO there's 4 guys that are safe on D, Girardi, Staal, McDonagh and MDZ. If we get someone that works out better one of those guys gets moved down to the 5 or 6 spot. I agree with you though, we should sign him, he has a great upside, and as you said he's a righty. As for Dubi, it's funny cus I was just youtubing rangers goals or something and though Dubi hasn't had many, the ones he's had he's been confident with the puck and just took it to the net. Hopefully he gets his confidence back and does what he can do more consistantly.
