Well that should speed up his NHL timetable a bit. Not exactly sure how i feel about this. Hope this kid becomes something because so many scouts and writers are down on him.

I haven't seen anything that suggests that they're down on him. He's a relative unknown similar to Kreider when he was first drafted. Gordie loves him, so there must be something about him.

I always like when a player takes the CHL over college for the main reason that the season is similar to an NHL season, unlike the college season which doesn't prepare kids for a long NHL season.

Let's say he makes a strong case to stick with the Rangers post training camp. Which forward's position would be at most risk?

Avery for the reason that he isn't consistent and Torts doesn't like him. Christensen for the reason that he isn't consistent. Wolski for the reason that at his salary he better put up points and if he doesn't, he is a prime candidate to be traded. Zucs for the reason that Torts seemed to sour on him as the year went on.

We really only have one forward spot open for people to battle for (unless we don't re-sign Callahan which I seriously doubt and/or we get rid of Wolski). I think Avery, Christensen, Zucs and all of our NHL ready prospects (Weisse, Thomas) will be battling for it. Of course I could also see someone playing Feds off the roster...

when people get hurt, then call somebody up as needed. I think Boyle would be a perfect fit on the top line since he has the size and strength to go into the corners, he can fight to stand up for his linemates, he can score and pass, and it keeps the Dubinsky/Anisimov/Callahan line together. Stepan and Fedotenko have chemistry and as long as Wolski shows up, thats a good 3rd line and if you let Avery center the 4th line, he gets the minutes Tortorella seems to want him to have (limited) but in that role with his speed and tenacity, that line is probably the toughest to play against in hockey.

I would do zuccarello for wolski, just play the hot hand: that keeps them both motivated and on task.

For those who are WJC roster watching, JT Miller is basically a lock for the US team. Him and Grimaldi have some chemistry dating back to the U-18 tournaments. Played really well in the Summer evaluation camp. Everyone was calling this guy a low upside grinding type player. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Give it two years and he'll be our best prospect, its just that he's coming out of nowhere and not that many people are familiar with him.

Shane McColgan was invited to the evaluation camp, but he was one of the cuts. He'll probably be invited back to the December camp, but I'm not expecting him to make it.

Christian Thomas is also close to a lock for Team Canada.

Shane McColgan, Right Wing, New York Rangers: McColgan was an early cut, but from what I saw of him in limited time, he showed spurts of top-end ability in his skating and puck skills. He's the kind of prospect who could go any which way in his development, but there's certainly the upside with McColgan to go way up.

J.T. Miller, Center, New York Rangers: Miller played extremely well at the camp, and was the USA's best forward. His skating and overall speed looked above-average, he made some nice defensive plays, and his physical play was very good along the walls and when pressuring defenders on the forecheck. He also made a lot of above-average plays with the puck in regards to his puck-handling and distribution of the puck. Some NHL sources see top-end upside with Miller and while I'm not sure I would go that far, I think I may have to upgrade my projection of Miller as he certainly has top six skills. My main knocks on Miller have been his sense and decision-making, but at the camp both of those aspects actually looked above-average.
