I was being sarcastic. Adding Hicks to the 40-man roster was a given. He's not going anywhere except to Ft Myers for spring training. I don't expect him to make the big club this season, but I do expect him to be a September call-up.

Twins signed 1B Jeff Clement to a minor league contract.
Clement hasn't been a prospect for a while, but he did have a pretty nice year at Triple-A with the Pirates in 2012, batting .276/.340/.486 line with 16 homers and 57 RBI. He's merely organizational depth. Rotoworld
I think I saw that one coming. 3rd catcher that can play 1st and dh?

Clement hasn't caught in three years. He'll probably end up being vetran filler for Rochester. Not a bad signing, just not too exciting other than the fact he was once drafted third overall.

Not a big surprise. Clement grew up in the town I used to work in and was a Twins' fan as a kid. He's likely going to be at Rochester as a 1B/DH catching once in a while.

I certainly don't object to the signing; whether or not I trust the mgmt's intent in having signed him is an altogether different story, however, which you may or may not have been eluding to.
I don't think we have to put him on the 40 man roster if a minor league contract.

As far as the catching he would be the "emergency 3rd catcher". Just saying..

Still has a lot to prove to make the team.

Meyer is a nice pitching prospect, the best in our system now. He and Gibson should be nice pieces of our future rotation.

A power pitcher (no kidding) with a high-90's fastball and a wicked slider, he's got stuff to burn, but a sometimes-wonky delivery and spotty command have plagued him through his young career. The Nats will be cautious with him, because he's one of those extremely high-ceiling types who's only a nudge or two from superstardom... or disaster. At least one fraction of the Nats organization wants to see him converted to closing duties, as the path to the majors could be much quicker and less risky with only two pitches needed along the way.
Here is a quick rundown on what we got. I like the pickup of Meyer, the sky is the limit if he can put everything together. He has potential to be a Verlander clone if all goes well. I still wish we would have been able to pickup a more MLB ready prospect, but getting a top 100 prospect is pretty good value for Span in my opinion.

I like the pickup as well. And we have about $30M to spend now. We have no excuse not to offer Sanchez or Jackson a 5 year deal now... then go after McCarthy on a 1 year deal with a vesting option and then another pitcher like Blanton/Myers on a 1 year deal. That should take about $27-30M for a combo of those 3.

I have a gut feeling that we will walk away with Sanchez and Blanton. Our opening day rotation will be

    Sanchez
    Diamond
    Blanton
    Gibson
    Blackburn

good trade. and I like that Span went to Washington because they are an easy toeam to cheer for, and Span is an easy person to cheer for.

So how long will it be before we can expect to see Meyer at Target Field? I believe he has not pitched past A ball yet.

I think sometime in 2014 would be realistic...

As for whether Meyer will be a starter or reliever, Ryan said: "Starter, starter, starter, starter. We're looking for starting pitching."
