How the hell did we net a #1 pick for Brouwer??? Caps are nuts! I like him, but he's not worth a #1 pick. I really thought we would trade him today and was hoping for a 2nd rounder at best. 6 picks in the first 3 rounds is nice!

We'll miss his hitting, but that's good value for him.

It's too bad though. I like Brouwer and thought he was a valuable member of the team. I know we're building for the future, but I don't want to get rid of EVERYONE.

How about bringing back Ben Eager? UFA and a much better hitter than Brouwer.

I really like Brouwer and I didn't want to see him go because of the toughness he played with. I am surprised we did get a 1st round pick though. I would have been ok with a 2nd but they said the Caps are really high on him

Brouwer wanted 2.5 million, goodbye. No way he was worth that kind of money.

Same here but glad we got a #1 for him, still can't believe it! He's definitely replaceable regardless how much you liked him. Ben Eager anyone?

    A 1st for Brouwer? Nice. IMO, that's a steal.

I actually met him this summer and got him to sign my Blackhawks banner. We chatted about his character in NHL 11. He asked if his shot was high because that was the only thing that mattered in the game haha

    How about Cam Janssen?
I mean you love him if he is on your team, but if he isn't you hate him. i think he would bring an excellent physical presence to this team..
Last year in 54 games, 95 hits..
i dont see him being to expensive

Yea, unfortunately his contract demands were/are just too high.

We got great value for him.

I hate to see him go though, he really progressed as a player over the last few years. Brouwer had some sandpaper/grit to him, and we will miss that. This team needed more sandpaper/grit with Brouwer on the team...so I truly hope we replace it.

Like many said, we'll miss Brouwer's hits...but he is not worth the money he is asking. Considering we saved cap AND got a 1st round pick in return for him is TREMENDOUS. The FA market is going to be very interesting this season, with the Hawks hopefully being big players. Janssen wouldn't be a bad pickup, nor would Eager to bring into the lineup as a physical presence...both would come at a pretty low price.

Go Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, and Illini!

incredible trade for hawks. had him penciled to leave this off-season. getting overvalue on him with a late 1st is just gravy baby

Hate to see Brouwer go, but agree with everyone that his contract demands were just to high.
