Mathieu Darche had an opportunity to test the free-agent market this summer, but he decided that he wanted to stay at home.

“You have to look at the options you have, but I told my agent that my first choice was to stay in Montreal,” Darche said Friday after signing a one-year deal worth $700,000. That’s a raise from the $500,000 he earned last season.

“This will be the first time my kids have been in the same school two years in a row,” said the 34-year-old St. Laurent native, who had career highs of 12 goals and 14 assists last season."
