On Thursday afternoon, the Irish landed a commitment from four-star running back KeiVarae Russell of Mariner High in Everett, Wash.

“The more I thought about it, the more I realized that was the place for me,” Russell said of Notre Dame. “It was the total package of what I was Looking for.”

Russell chose the Irish over in-state Washington. He also held offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, California, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Oregon State, Purdue, Stanford, UCLA, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington State and Wyoming.

The 6-foot, 175-pound athlete took his official visit to Notre Dame in October for the USC game and he left quite impressed.

    How many stars is he?

I was worried at the beginning of the year to see our recruiting wasn't ranked very high, now I see that it was merely that all the recruits we were expected to get hadn't committed yet!

That's all I had heard as well. (him enrolling early at VT)

SaveUMFootball on Twitter posted that he hasn't yet made his decision between VT and Miami, but I don't think he actually has any real sources... he just grabs whatever rumors he finds on canes time, and tweets them out.

Brown is a 4 star player on Rivals, and a 3-star on Scout.

    Fair enough.

I wasn't actually posting it as a "take that, Washington!" though. I'm a big ND fan, so it was more of a celebratory post if anything.

DeForest Buckner committed to Oregon at halftime as expected. Very strong football player with a big frame, he has a shot to play a role similar to what Jordan does for us right now.

This is a horrible class for UW 6 top recruits in your own state and your only able to land 1.

It's a shame when that happens, as an Oregon fan we have been through it plenty of times in the past. You just have to trust your coaching staff's talent evaluation, the unheralded recruits sometimes surprise you. Also, with the Husky Stadium renovation coming it will be easier to get recruits, that place is going to be a palace.

Hearing a lot of people saying Rob Lockhart switched to Miami.

If true, it's been a huge day for the Canes.

He did. Kid screwed VT and the coaches, but that's recruiting for you.
