.Reds Non-Tender Then Re-Sign Phipps & Negron
By Mike Axisa [December 1 at 8:23am CST]
The Reds non-tendered both Denis Phipps and Kris Negron prior to last night's deadline, reports MLB.com's Mark Sheldon. Both players then re-signed with the club on minor league contracts with invitations to Spring Training.
Phipps, 27, had three hits in ten at-bats with Cincinnati as a September call-up this year, his big league debut. The outfielder hit .231/.300/.422 in 419 minor league player appearances this season. Negron, 26, made his big league debut in June and went 1-for-4. The utility man hit .217/.287/.342 in 319 Triple-A plate appearances and has experience at every position other than pitcher, catcher, and first base.

mlbtrReds To Sign Jack Hannahan
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 12, 2012 at 10:19am CST]
The Reds have agreed to sign free agent infielder Jack Hannahan to a one-year, $2MM contract, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (on Twitter). Hannahan, a Joe Speed client, will back up Todd Frazier in Cincinnati, according to Rosenthal.
Hannahan became a free agent two weeks ago when the Indians non-tendered him. Five teams had "genuine" interest, including the Yankees, Twins and White Sox. MLBTR projected a $1.5MM salary for the 32-year-old via the arbitration process, so he ends up profiting from the Indians' decision to release him.
Hannahan appeared in 105 games for the Indians in 2012, mostly at third base (he played in seven games at shortstop and another two at first base). In 318 plate appearances, he posted a .244/.312/.341 batting line with 16 doubles. The left-handed hitter has slightly better numbers against right-handed pitching for his career, making him a natural complement to the right-handed hitting Frazier.

Very good backup plan for Frazier, hes also VERY good defensively. I want to kiss you Walt.
GODS OF JUICE
his offensive numbers aren't impressive. but he's just a backup so I think he'll do fine.
I think this basically means that Rolen won't be back because he'll have no where to play.
Hannahan is a fine pickup. He will replace crap master Cairo and can play SS and 1st too. He and Donald are upgrades over the crap we had on the bench last year.
props to Bee for the sig!!
Agreed Brownies
