http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/news/...s_cin&c_id=cinReds claim righty Simon off waivers
CINCINNATI -- The Reds claimed right-handed pitcher Alfredo Simon off waivers from the Orioles on Tuesday.
Simon had been with Baltimore since he broke into the big leagues in 2008. Expected to be used in Cincinnati's bullpen, the 30-year-old is 8-12 lifetime with a 5.18 ERA in 78 games, including 36 starts. As a reliever last season, Simon was 1-1 with a 4.64 ERA in 21 1/3 innings over seven games. For his career as a reliever, he's 5-3 with a 5.21 ERA in 59 appearances.
"I'm studying him now," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "We told everybody we would still be looking over the waiver wire and seeing if we could find somebody with big league experience. It appears that we found somebody."
Last season, Simon was 4-9 with a 4.90 ERA in 23 games (16 starts). As a starter, he went 3-9 with a 5.15 ERA in 19 games.
"Pitching in that AL East, period, is a tough division," Baker said.
The Reds have not announced a corresponding move to make room for Simon on the 25-man roster.
Originally expected to compete for a spot in the Orioles' starting rotation this spring, Simon allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits over nine innings in his four outings (two starts). All but one of those runs came in his final appearance with the club, when he gave up six runs on six hits in just two innings against the Blue Jays last Wednesday.

This was kind of surprising since the trade of Francisco:
rotoworldReds optioned 3B Todd Frazier to Triple-A Louisville.
Frazier will likely be called right back up if Scott Rolen again struggles to stay healthy. The 26-year-old went 16-for-55 (.291) this spring in the Cactus League.

I think both moves are solid depth moves and Wurtez is a nice signing if he could stay healthy he could be a steal.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/0...ill-ohman.htmlReds Sign Will Ohman
By Zach Links [July 21, 2012 at 4:44pm CST]
The Reds have signed left-hander Will Ohman, according to Assistant Director of Media Relations Jamie Ramsey (via Twitter). The 34-year-old will report to Triple-A Louisville.
Ohman was released by the White Sox earlier this month after being designated for assignment. In 26 2/3 innings for Chicago, Ohman posted a 6.41 ERA with 4.4 K/9 and 1.7 BB/9. The veteran likely came to the Reds at a reasonable rate as he will collect on the $2.5MM owed to him on the backend of his two-year deal from the ChiSox.

Not sure as to why, but the Reds released Brett Tomko.
In 12 starts he had an 0-6 record with a 3.78 ERA pitching for Louisville. The W-L record is bad, but his ERA leads me to believe that he has just been a victim of bad luck. There must be some injury issues there. I don't think he was on the 40 man roster.

mlbtrReds Sign Emmanuel Burriss
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 21, 2012 at 3:32pm CST]
The Reds signed utility player Emmanuel Burriss to a minor league deal, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports (on Twitter). CAA Sports represents Burriss, who elected free agency earlier in the month.
In 60 games with the Giants this past season, Burriss appeared at second base, third base, shortstop and right field. The 27-year-old posted a .213/.370/.221 batting line in 150 plate appearances. Burriss, San Francisco's first round selection in 2006, would have been arbitration eligible this offseason if the Giants had kept him on their roster

Good minor league signing. Could help the team should injuries arise throughout the season.
