back in 2009 the padres were asking for Tommy Hanson and prospects for Jake Peavy, good for the braves to decline it
In most recent
I non stop heard rumors or speculation of Matt cain for Prince Fielder. I heard talks heated up few years ago but Giants wanted JJ Hardy as well or something. Glad that didn't go through, we don't win the world series without Cain.
And then of course theres the Lincecum/Rios swap. I'm pretty confident the deal was taken off the table once SF signed Rowand...sabean felt he got the bat(LOL i know dont laugh to hard) and said Lincecum wasnt available anymore.
heres one of my favorite trade rumors that almost happened in the Winter of 2007
Redsox would of sent Mike Lowell, Julian Tavarez & Pitching Prospects (Craig Hansen and Manny Delcarme) to the Rockies for Todd Helton
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2747254
Clay Buchholz: 6-0, ERA 1.01 / Jon Lester: 4-0 , 3.11
Back in the day, there was a rumor that the Reds wanted to trade Bench and others for Bob Gibson. That could have changed things for both teams.
Vernon Wells, Alex Rios (before absurd contract extension) and Brandon League for Garry Sheffield, Andy Phillips and Sean Henn.
Would have been one of the greatest trades in Yankee History. Course they didn't trade him after 05 and so began his rapid decline.

Buster Olneys "The last night of the Yankee Dynasty" reveals a few of these. One was Soriano for Edmonds in 2000, Also Pettitte and an "army" of prospects for the big unit in 98 or 99. Cano, Wang and other prospects for the big unit in winter 2004 and Lastings for Zito at the 06 deadline.
We remember...
Dodged a bullet there. In his chat yesterday for ESPN.com, former Blue Jays assistant GM Keith Law discusses how Steve Phillips nearly sent David Wright to the Blue Jays for OF Jose Cruz Jr. at the trade deadline in 2002:
In 2002, Wright was 19 years old, and hitting just .266 with 114 strike outs in 135 games for the Low-A Capital City Bombers.“The offer was made, though; I was there when the call came in. It was the first time I’d heard of Wright, since I wasn’t with Toronto in 2001 nor had I followed the draft when Wright was in it. JP’s reaction was, ‘I’m not trading a major league player for some guy in the Sally League.’ And that was pretty much that.”
Meanwhile, in 2002, Cruz had been hitting around .230 with a .300 OBP around the time of the Trade Deadline.
Props to MetsLegacy
Schuerholtz has also said that if the Braves had acquired Barry Bonds that the money spent on his extension would've prevented them from signing Greg Maddux. As much as Braves fans loved Maddux, you have to wonder what the addition of Bonds to their lineup would've done in the 90's when you consider they still had Smoltz and Glavine to anchor the rotation.
redsox in 06 were offered either/loney/kemp and one of broxton/billingsley
But Theo wanted all 5 and wouldn't settle for 4 of them
Manny For Arod and Nomar for Magglio Ordonez
Lester and coco were almost traded for Andrew Jones who was to be flipped to the astros to bring Oswalt to the sox, but it fell through
Jackie Bradley Junior.... that is all
Never know how truthful any of these rumours are but:
1) impending FA Jose Cruz Jr TOR to the Mets for a SIngle A 3B (David Wright), declined by JP Ricarrdi.
2) Not completely sure how true this one is but i heard it few years back.
Blue Jays nearly did a deal with the Rockies late 90s when Gord Ash was still around.
To: Toronto - Pedro Attacio
To: Colorado 3 prospects : Vernon Wells, Chris Carpenter and Roy Halladay
