The Chicago Blackhawks have signed forward Jimmy Hayes to a three-year contract, which begins at the start of the 2011-12 season.
Hayes, 21, who was acquired by Chicago on June 26, 2010 in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, ranked second on the team with 21 goals, including a club-high five game-winning markers, and shared third with 33 points (21G, 12A) in 39 games as a junior at Boston College. He registered four goals, including a hat trick, and six points in four postseason games while leading the Eagles to the 2011 Hockey East Championship.
The Dorchester, Massachusetts, native also tallied 35 points (13G,22A) in 42 games during the 2009-10 campaign while helping the Eagles to the 2010 NCAA Menís Ice Hockey Championship. In three seasons at The Heights he posted 42 goals and 39 assists in 117 collegiate tilts.
Hayes was originally selected in the second round (60th overall) of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft by Toronto. He has logged extensive international experience with Team USA, including the 2009 World Junior Championships in Ottawa.
