The Chicago Blackhawks have signed forward Jimmy Hayes to a three-year contract, which begins at the start of the 2011-12 season.

Hayes, 21, who was acquired by Chicago on June 26, 2010 in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, ranked second on the team with 21 goals, including a club-high five game-winning markers, and shared third with 33 points (21G, 12A) in 39 games as a junior at Boston College. He registered four goals, including a hat trick, and six points in four postseason games while leading the Eagles to the 2011 Hockey East Championship.

The Dorchester, Massachusetts, native also tallied 35 points (13G,22A) in 42 games during the 2009-10 campaign while helping the Eagles to the 2010 NCAA Menís Ice Hockey Championship. In three seasons at The Heights he posted 42 goals and 39 assists in 117 collegiate tilts.

Hayes was originally selected in the second round (60th overall) of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft by Toronto. He has logged extensive international experience with Team USA, including the 2009 World Junior Championships in Ottawa.

Pretty good stats for a player like Jimmy Hayes. A lot of quality NHL players don't put up a point per game in College.

Jimmy Hayes is 6'5", 21 years old, and will probably start in the AHL next year. Nice to have some size.

We also have his brother Kevin Hayes (24th overall last year) who has some nice size and plays at Boston College.

I kind of thought Hayes was a bust before the Leafs traded him. He plays with a lot of talent for Boston College including Hobey Baker finalist Cameron Atkinson. A lot of the time, other guys make guys like Hayes look better which basically tells you that if you give him talent, he'll be able to compliment them but he isn't a star or anything. Could turn into a nice middle 6 forward with some scoring touch but I still see him as a bust.

Drafted because of his size really but you cant teach size.
