Minor trade: Canes get Joslin from Sharks

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired defenseman Derek Joslin from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for future considerations.

Joslin, 23, has 1 goal, 4 points and a minus-2 rating in 17 games this season.

"Derek is a young defenseman who will add depth to our organization," said Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford. "He shows a good skill level and plays a solid two-way game."
Can never have too many dmen for the stretch drive. Just ask the Canucks.

Well, we come out even on the number of defense men. We have traded White to the Sharks for a 2012 2nd round pick.

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired San Jose’s second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the Sharks in exchange for defenseman Ian White.

“We’ve been very confident in Brett Carson’s play with the Hurricanes this season, and that has given us the opportunity to make today’s trade,” said Rutherford. “This move gives us some flexibility going forward, and we thank Ian for his service to the Hurricanes this season.”
I doubt we were going to resign him at the end of the year anyway, so I guess we were just getting something for him.
