Pryor, other Buckeyes suspended 5 games

    From ESPN.com
Five Ohio State football players, including quarterback Terrelle Pryor, must sit out the first five games of the 2011 season for accepting improper benefits, the NCAA ruled Thursday.

A sixth football player must sit out the first game in 2011 for receiving discounted services in violation of NCAA rules.

All of the players be eligible for the Jan. 4 Allstate Sugar Bowl, however.

Five players were found to have sold awards, gifts and university apparel, plus receive improper benefits in 2009. In addition to missing five games next season, Pryor, Mike Adams, Daniel Herron, Devier Posey and Solomon Thomas must repay money and benefits ranging in value from $1,000 to $2,500. The repayments must be made to a charity.

If this happened in the SEC, the NCAA would have acted like nothing happened.

Not really. This is basically the same reason why AJ Green was suspended for all of those games this season.

Cam Newton can sell "the rights to him" for hundreds of thousands of dollars, but an athlete can't sell a ring they own?

The punishment should be 100X worse for Newton.
Yes, the OSU players should be punished. But the fact Newton walks away from everything is just pathetic.

Not sure why they get to play in the Sugar bowl besides NCAA saving face(the only thing they care about besides money it seems like).

Yup this makes no sense either.

OSU is appealing the suspension, so that means it'll likely be reduced to 3 games anyways.

I just don't understand any of the logic in this situation.

The Badgers could be the favorite in the Leaders division of the conference that can't count if this holds up to 5 games or they bolt to the NFL. I'd like better competition but the penalty is just, other than being allowed to play in the bowl game.
