    How is this possible?

Jim Tressel has never been Big Ten coach of the year..thats amazing.

    2001: Ron Turner, Illinois
    2002: Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
2003: John L. Smith, Michigan State
    2004: Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
    2005: Joe Paterno, Penn State
    2006: Bret Bielema, Wisconsin
    2007: Ron Zook, Illinois
    2008: Joe Paterno, Penn State
    2009: Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
    2010: Mark Dantonio, Michigan State

Tressel has won 6 straight Big Ten titles, has played for the National Championship three times, has had two undefeated regular seasons including one with a National Title, has posted a remarkable 105-22 record.....

yet Kirk Ferentz has posted a 87-58 mark or something like that.....has never had an undefeated season, has had 1 maybe 2 losing seasons, has won a Big Ten title a couple or maybe a few times (I don't believe he has any outright) and has won Big Ten coach of the year 3 times?

Tressel is CLEARLY the best coach in the Big Ten, that goes with out saying!!

    JUST AMAZING.

Well, a lot of it is perception; the perception of what the coaches do with the talent they have.

For instance, Ohio State pulls in top 5 or 10 recruiting classes annually - they should be winning the Big Ten year in and year out. If Iowa is lucky they get a top 25 recruiting class - half the time they're considered in the bottom half of the Big 10 in recruiting... yet they frequently find themselves in the top half of the Big Ten.

That's not to say that it's right that Tressel hasn't been honored with the award, it's just an attempt at an explanation.

Lloyd Carr never won it either, yet Gary Moeller got it twice.

I do have to agree with the notion that many people probably felt those coaches done more with the talent they had on their rosters. It's funny because Jim Tressel won coach of the year in 2002.
