A different kind of talent, yes. Like rap certain ones are mindless garbage but vocals like that are extremely hard to do and make them sound decent. Decent being in the ear of the beholder. Majority of singers that do those type of vocals need surgery within a short amount of time because of the stress it puts on the throat.

Thats why often you see metal bands that start out with vocals like that change to a more cleaner or mainstream type vocal style(Linkin Park for a more well-known example) down the line.

I'll listen to **** like All That Remains, killswitch, diecast etc, but it is not my number one choice.

NY hardcore is ****ing awesome Sick of it All, Reagan Youth, Agnostic Front, Madball etc

I barely come on this forum because everyone talks about commercial rap, which I'm not into. It's great to talk about some metal
Certainly not true if you read some of the things that go down here.
But for metal, I'm very specific about what I like. I don't like the screaming aspect of it at all. Which is why I don't like Master of Puppets by Metallica.
I like more Iron Maiden and more glam metal (like Motley Crue)

you saying "I cant understand why anyone likes this" is the same as music bashing.

Have you any idea what it's like to scream like so and somehow make it audible for those people? or the kind of strength your throat needs to withstand the pain of screaming like that?

No plain peter can go to the mic and make an actual career out of it just like that.

yes it ABSOLUTELY does. More than rapping. Try sustaining a REAL screaming vocal for more than 5 seconds. Don't think you could do it. Then try it for 4 minutes, then try it 12 times, then try it every night for 180 days a year.

I will concede there is some good hip hop, and when I mean good I mean socially conscious. Immortal technique, EL-P, Mos Def, Flobots, Brother Ali, Sage Francis, Dead Prez. I just can't stand this "lil this" and "lil that", talking about rims and cars and disrespecting women...that to me is garbage.

It's not just about screaming, at least for me. It's the excellent guitar playing and the great drumming. Depending on what you listen to "singers" vary in talent. I'm not into Screamo or whiny screams with some cheap riffs where some dude is gonna kill himself over a girl, I like growly vocals with dark lyrics...aka as I have mentioned many times, one of the greatest bands alive...Lamb of God.

Most of the bands these guys named in this thread I don't even listen too. I mostly into **** like heavy metal, black metal, groove metal...I like heavy ****, **** that isn't about breaking up with girlfriends but **** that has more substance....

Chill..as an equal fan of rap and metal alike, one of the hardest things in music is to be able to properly scream. Don't believe me? Give it a try yourself, you couldn't growl out a sentence in the proper way, never mind an entire song.

As for the thread, I'm probably one of the biggest metal fans on the site. Not really into Hardcore/Screamo/Deathcore bands like some have listed in the thread, really prefer more Prog Metal/Tech Death Metal/Thrash Metal.
