Yanks, Rivera reach two-year, $30M contract

Christian Red of the New York Daily News reports that the Yankees have reached a two-year, $30 million contract with Mariano Rivera.
The deal is expected to be finalized on Friday night. Rivera was asking for a two-year contract worth around $18 million per season and came very close to getting what he wanted. The 41-year-old posted a fantastic 1.80 ERA and 0.83 WHIP along with 33 saves in 38 opportunities this past season.

They weren't the top bidder this time... apparently Rivera took $2 million less a year and an entire year less by signing with the yankees (total of $21 million left on the table). So looks like that was his way of saying "loyalty discount"

    ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK.

Red sox offered him 3 years 17M per so you know nothing. If you think this is a bad deal thing you also are negated points.

Word on the street is that the Red Sox were one of the teams to offer him a third year...but he declined. I didn't know there were still players in this league that value loyalty over dollars. Props to Mo.

They'll pay 15 MM for 60 innings pitched a year, but they won't resign the SS who is and has been the face of their organization for the last decade+?

Reason number 234567 I don't like that franchise.

And if they resigned Jeter by giving him what he wanted, I'm sure that would have been reason number 234568 that you didn't like the Yankees.

15 million a year for a closer is absurd, and thats stupid that it wasn't even the highest bid for him...a closer is important but someone that pitches one inning every few days should not get that much money

But a closer can make you lose so many games during the season, and let's not even talk about playoffs.
