I think it's a combination of playing a tough game against Boise on Monday (2 days shorter rest) and the weather was completely ****** here in Blacksburg today. 58 degrees and pouring rain.

There's no excuse for a loss like that. If coaches don't roll for this, then I have lost all hope for VT.

I wouldn't give up so soon...They still haven't entered conference play, so a BCS bid is still up for grabs if they can get their **** together.

Seriously though...who was the guy in charge of making VT's schedule who thought "Hmm...well, we play a top 5 team in the nation for our season opener on a Monday night. Let's schedule our second game for the next Saturday afternoon!"

I'm surprised people aren't talking about this more. To me, this is almost as big of an upset as Michigan-App State. Michigan was very overrated at 5, while Va Tech was an outside contender for the national title during the 4th quarter a week ago.

They played JMU, who the **** cares if they scheduled it Saturday afternoon? There's no way they should have lost.

While I agree, teams never play the following Saturday after playing 5 days before. FSU did it last year and almost lost to Jacksonville St. After an emotional loss to Boise St. the team looked uninspired after the first quarter, mainly because of the ultra conservative playcalling inside the redzone that allowed JMU to stay in the game.

I think this would have if VT hadn't of lost already in the season. Plus, it wasn't the first time a big time program went down to an FCS school.
