If you're sure he's legit, then that's a bargain for a kid his age. Personally, based on his scouting reports before he signed, I wanted him. The years and price are steep for a kid who never played in the majors - but it could end up being a huge steal if he continues to dominate, and as a starter, in 2011 and beyond.
Then again, look at Strassburg. You never know with these really young kids. Giving out huge paydays to someone who has not ever been major league tested is very risky.
I can only think of 3 guys in recent history that never pitched in the majors and all were acquired for massive and/or long-term investments. Chapman is one. Strasburg.. well you know what happened there already. And Matsuzaka.
supposedly we were interested in chapman, the mets n alot of other teams i think werent to comfortable signing him for so much money, when they werent sure about his command n his secondary pitchers he was very raw.
but the mets r pathetic they rather give big contracts to luis castillo then take a chance on a 21 yr old w electric stuff. the mangament here is a joke
