The closest I ever got to a 300 was starting with 8 straight Xs. That's nerve wracking as all hell.
Once saw a guy, and this was bittersweet, hit a 299 (sparing on his 11th ball). It was epic. We were in a league that we so appropriately named ourselves the BS league and he was easily the best bowler. No problem with that it's just that he knew he was and he made sure eveyone knew it.
There were more smiles on people's faces than there were "Oh, I'm sorry, man, good game!"![]()
The league I bowl in there is a 300 game probably every other week, lots of good bowlers.
A little over a year ago I went bowling with 2 of my friends and we got on a lane and I look at the lane next to me and see a different friends dad on the lane next to us so since I knew him very well I was talking to him while we were bowling and he starts a new game and starts getting strikes and so me and my friends are watching him bowl and he suddenly after a while has a perfect game going into the 10th frame and he gets a strike so he was 2 strikes away from a 300 and his next roll he rolled perfectly but only ended up with a 9 so he didn't get his perfect game which sucked but it was cool to watch a close to perfect game.

I go to a thing called Redpin occasionally where you bowl to win money. A strike with a colored headpin is 3/4/5(depends on color). There are other combos(colored 7/10 pins) in which if you stike you win 10$ and so on.
You can also buy raffle tickets and if your name gets called and you strike you win 10$. Then you have sureshot when everyone is done which is another raffle. Depends on how many people are there but usually if you get called and strike you win 25+. The cover charge is 20 and usually I buy 10$ on raffle rickets and 5$ in sureshot tickets. Out of that 35 my best is walking home with 70 so thats 45 in profit. A good way to kill a night![]()
Watching the Chicago White Sox makes you want to beat women
Interesting format. Seems like a fairly easy way to make money.

I was supposed to go bowling yesterday but didn't get a chance to so I am going later today. Pretty excited.

So bowled Saturday night 1st week and was a little rusty. I bowled a 179, 178, 211. I only threw 6 games over the summer. I was covering my spares, I was just erractic in the pocket couldnt stay consistent. Would hit head pin high one frame then light the next frame. As the night went on though I regrouped and ended up bowling average the last game. We won 2 out of 3 and series so all is good.
^Pretty good scores.
I bowled yesterday. Bowled 4 games. My scores in order were: 144, 172, 151, 157. Pretty solid day for me since my average is around 140-150 usually.

So my bowling league that I had been in for 4 years started yesterday and due to money constraints I am unable to participate in it (was actually in 2 last year).![]()
I'm in that same boat. I want to be able to do the couples league we bowl in for sure but that might not even happen. We are pushing our men's league to start in October and do a shorter season so that might buy me some time to get back in it.
Yeah, I asked about leagues out here the other day. Very expensive. Don't think I can afford it right now. So sad.

The men's league I'm in is $10 per night. $8 for bowling and then $2 goes into the prize money and banquet fund. Each team (3 man) can have up to 4 bowlers at the banquet. We usually get about 25 bucks a person back plus a free meal so its not too bad for a night of fun. I have a little extra incentive as league treasurer and secretary (since I'm literally the only computer literate person in the league) and those positions are paid for by the team sponsors, which would pay for my bowling throughout the year. Only problem I have is without an income I can't pay for beer frames and other things like poker during bowling.
Speaking of poker, the version we play is you get 2 cards on a strike and 1 on a spare. If you miss a spare, someone playing picks a card from your hand. You also cannot hold more than 5 cards at a time and the decks have jokers. Usually both teams play the same game since we have 3 person teams so thats up to 6 hands depending on who plays. We each put in a buck and highest hand takes the pot after each game. Anyone else do this that bowls league?
