Do you get a good hook that way? I've given it a few tries and I just can't do anything but throw it straight when I use my thumb.

depends on what ball you are using, if its some random house ball there will be little to no curve.

Yeah I don't have a ball of my own, and pretty much every house ball is cracked and dinged all over the place. So is that what makes the big difference in hooking the ball?

Yeah I have a pretty sweet hook. I am happy with it. I don't have the ability to bowl straight. I have tried and it just doesn't happen. Don't know why.

Ahh, didn't know we had a bowling thread. I bowl in 2 leagues, averages are 195 and 202. Closest to a 300 has been a 268.

Now you know! Pretty good averages there. Would love to be able to have my average that high.

The last couple of weeks I've been able to hold steady at like a 140 average and haven't dipped below a 125 any of the times I've been out, so I think that those truly atrocious beginner games are out of me.

I have a lot of trouble picking up spares on the right side of the lane(I'm right handed), and I usually try to twist my arm the opposite direction to get it to spin right, but that only works about half the time.

I use a 2 finger grip and leave my thumb out. Is there a greater advantage in using the thumb or is it just kind of a personal preference deal? If so, how can i get the ball to curve the way I do with a 2 finger grip, if it's more advantageous to use the thumb?
The reason you cant pick up a spare is because you dont put your thumb in ball. The thumb is what keeps your ball straight in the back of your hand and its what guides the ball. I throw a good hook but on spare shots on the right side are pretty easy for me considering I can throw the ball straight as an arrow.

Welcome! Nice average, I hold a 203 from last year. I have been up and down this year. My average went up to a 205 at one point this season, but now I am at a 202. I have bowled a 300 twice once in practice and once on league play got a ring for it.

Was finally able to order my bowling ball today finally now that my league is over and stuff. I took everyones advice and went bigger then 10 so my new ball is going to be size 12. I was told I wont get it for a few weeks though so I may try to use Bowling alley 12 pounders to try to get used to it. I hope it works out.

Practice and just stay consistent. Practice before you start the game is so important for the simple fact that you have to find your line and adjust all game long. I just hope I can stay over 200 on the year and help my team stay in 1st. We've won 1st 2 out of the last 3 years so if we win this year we can basically chalk it up as a dynasty, lol.
