Why the Pilots Fly in the Post-Season

Why we beat the Marlins is very simple actually. Their ENTIRE line-up, outside of Wright played Pre 1970. Yes, Robinson played a tad later. They are basically an Atari, while we are a PS3. More modern, spectacular, and efficient. Also, things improve over time. We don't listen to Perry Como, and gather around the radio for Little Orphan Annie. We rock out to Eminem and masturbate to free porn at the click of the mouse. AKA FUTURE RULES! But, why this should mean nothing to you. Also, while we're at it their pitching staff as well.

    1) No blacks, latinos, asians. As you can see from watching about any sport. If it's ll white people it is horrible. No one knows how good these people are without the best players playing the game, and the best weren't playing the game. Also with that, no traveling. These guys barely had to travel to play. No west coast trips, no time zone changes, not as many games. etc. Basically more of a comfort level.

    2) Ballparks are huge and fielding is terrible. Reason why averages are so high and OBP, is because I could hit 250 with the parks they played in and the defense back then. So bad, the mitts were basically mittens, and obviously the range isn't the best. Also, the fact their fielding is bad in this ERA is quite comical, because so many balls were in play, it's pretty easy to get the range factor and all that up, and they really aren't.

    3) Scouting. No one gave a crap or could scout back then, you just showed up and played. No one knew the proper strategy with LOOGY and ROOGY match-ups. No one could say "Hey, pitch Lajoie up and in, he can't hit it"

    4) No 5-man. Nichols, Ford, Newhouser have good counting numbers. Ok, cool. They pitched 40+ games a year. Whitey Ford is basically Mark Buehrle, and do you want Mark Buehrle leading your staff? Kid Nichols is nothing special at all, except for the fact he had 300 wins cause he pitched every two days.

    5. Our bullpen. It just absolutely prison rapes them. They are banking on a majority of guys who have never relieved (and have little to no track record of success in their careers thus far) to do the job. They have two pretty good relievers, like the last match-up. I can make a case that Harvey our 4th guy is would be their best, or at least 2nd best. If the series will be close, the bullpen will win the games and ours would hold it more than not.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Offensively we have a very good balance. GREAT infield defense with 18 gold gloves. It is also a very good balanced line-up. Good OBP and speed at the top with the 1995 MVP, Barry Larkin, then the underrated, OBP MONSTER, Brian Giles in the 2-hole. Then the pitcher's will pee down their leg facing the game's most underrated hitter in Stan Musial, with one of the best right handed hitters of all-time Planet ManRam. We all know how powerful and RBI machineish Tex is, I doubt you know how amazing Scott Rolen has been, but he might be a top 5 3B of all-time. Whitaker is a formiddable bat at a weak offensive position, but fabulous with the glove, as is Gary Carter, who in his prime was a top 10 catcher possibly. He had an OPS of .823, and his war was an AVG of 6.3 in his 9 year prime(77-85). Really all I was going for here was balance. With a RLLRSRLR line-up with great OBP and slugging, I feel that is very adequate enough to get me leads for the amazing pitching staff.

Pitching wise. I truly honestly believe it is the best in this whole re-draft. Led by the greatest (in terms of dominance) ever Pedro Martinez. Seriously, Pedro's 1999 is the equivalent of Bonds 2001. It is so mind boggling, you really can't put into words how amazing it was. While other pitchers might have better "counting" numbers, Pedro did it in an ERA where hitting was so rampant. He would make all these pre-WWII players **** their pants. After Pedro is Curt Schilling who is not only one of the greatest pitchers ever, but maybe the best post-season pitcher ever. 11-2 with a 2.23 ERA, mercy, that is clutch. World Series MVP to his credit, plus a bloody sock. Guy would literally pitch until he would die if in the post-season, again another pitcher who dominated in the ERA of offense, more than some pitchers can say. After Schilling we got Juan Marichal, who unfortunately didn't get a lot of post-season time, but one of the most feared pitchers in the 60s (just ask John Roseboro). The Domincan Dandy amassed over 200 wins in his prominent and extravagant career, which was stamped with his wicked leg kick. Closing out the playoff rotation is Mr. Joshua Beckett. Another pitcher who has shown dominance in the modern ERA and great post-season success. 7-3 with a low 3 ERA, and a WS MVP to his credit. The thing about my rotation is these guys hardly walk anyone, and strike a lot of guys out. Which is key vs great line-ups. All these OBP machines won't be able to get their walks like normal who attack the zone. Each of these four men are on the first page of 1000IP on Fangraphs in K/BB ratio.

Bullpen - Without a doubt is the best, only Cole Hamels has an OPS higher than .600! I got match-ups set up as well. A LH and RH relief ace with two relievers who are the best of our time. I truly think Billy Wagner is the best reliever outside of Rivera that the game has ever seen, and absolutely absurd K rate and disgusting vs lefties, and is Francisco Rodriguez when he faces righties. Carlos Marmol is going to strike-out 100 guys AGAIN this year out of the bullpen, which is just absurd. He will be the 7th inning and early I need a strike out guy. Bryan Harvey is just quality, actually has a lower OPS against vs LH than righties as a RHP. He can do whatever is asked. MVP Willie Hernandez is the LOOGY to make LH's cry. Oh, and with all these flamethrowers I got coming in, who is going to close it? One of the greatest relievers of all-time, KNUCKLEBALLER, Hoyt Wilhelm. Put yourself in these shoes on facing a Marmol, Wagner/K-Rod. 98 with insane sliders. Then the nastiest Knuckler ever? Wouldn't even be fair, it would be un-hittable. You will not find a better bullpen in this, you will not find more strikeout pitchers than this. Pitching WINS championships, and there isn't a better all-around staff than this.

    Thanks for reading.

"God Made Man, I Made Man Equal" - Samuel Colt (1836)

    The Write Up
As Short and Simple as I can Make It...

Before I start I would quickly like to thank our Commissioners for running this Redraft. I know we ran into a lot of bumps along the way but for PSD's First All-Time Redraft, I thought it went pretty smooth.

Also, Good Luck to whoever my opponent may be....Anyways...

If you take away anything from this write up, take away this: Pre-1969 pitching is all bunk, the mound was 5 inches higher prior to 1969 and was decreased from 15 to 10 to increase offensive production in Major League Baseball.

Knowing this fact, I made it a point to draft pitching from post 1971 only.

I would like to think that I have the best pitching in this redraft, here's why:

My 1-2 features the best starting pitchers from the greatest hitters era in MLB history.
My 3 starter is a two time World Champion with career stats very comparable to Roy Halladay's.
My 4 starter was arguably the most under appreciated pitcher of the late 1980s/early 1990s. His 1990 World Series MVP isn't his only highlight, his 1988 to 1994 is flat out fantastic. If not for a series of crippling injuries that ruined his career, Jose Rijo very well may have gone down as one of the best Starters of the 1990s (Prime Steroid Era)

    My playoff rotation average?

    Average: 3.24ERA I 1.19WHIP I 7.5 K/9 I 3.07 K/BB I 3.34FIP I 130ERA+

I have a Bullpen that features 3 guys with OPS' against of .590 or lower vs RHB (Urbina-Putz-Richard)
I have a Bullpen that features 3 guys with OPS' against of .620 or lower vs LHB (Howe-Orosco-Key)
My other 2 Relievers are Keith Foulke and Jonathan Papelbon.
Both players closed out the last two Red Sox World Series, both players have great career stats, and both players have fantastic postseason numbers.

Also, since this is the postseason, consider this:

8 Relief Pitchers: 9 World Series Saves, 8 World Series Won.

    My playoff bullpen average?

    Average: 3.11ERA I 1.17WHIP I 8.1 K/9 I 2.77 K/BB I 3.39FIP I 141ERA+

Now, consider alllllll of that and remember what I said from the beginning:

All my pitching is from post 1971

    My offense?

I can't be certain, but I think my OBP/.wOBA numbers are perhaps the best in this redraft. My 1-2 features 2 of the top 20 OBPs of All-Time. My 2-6 hitters are all top 55 Sluggers (In terms of SLG%) and my last two guys? According to fangraphs Joe Gordon is the 2nd best defensive 2B of all time (His offense and WAR averages aren't too shabby either)
As for Varitek, I'm not sure there is a better leader on my entire team (and for All-Time Catchers, those numbers ain't half bad)

Anyways, ill shut up now, because I feel as though no write up could do my offense and pitching justice (at least not one you guys want to sit through )

I think it all speaks for itself really, don't believe me? Take a gander on down through the depth chart and find out for yourself...

and please, Have a Nice Day.

    Playoffs Mini-Writeup

The Marlins have an amazing offense, possibly the best in the entire redraft, and a great rotation. There is one thing that sets us a part from the rest, that gives us an advantage that no one else has. To be blunt, we have EIGHT Starting Pitchers. What does this mean? I'll show you with our playoff rotation.

Game 1, 5: LHP Whitey Ford - RHP Felix Hernandez
Game 2, 6: RHP Kid Nichols - LHP Jon Lester
Game 3, 7: LHP Hal Newhouser - RHP Josh Johnson
Game 4: RHP Luis Tiant - RHP Mark Prior

Clearly we will not be using our starters conventionally. Instead of worrying about our guy going deep into the game, we are going to let him dial it up and throw his best stuff for 4-5 innings and then go to our next SP who can dial it up for around 3-4 more. Our approximate 7-8 innings from two starters throwing all out will be better then what any one pitcher can do over the same innings. Not to mention more PH's will be able to bat instead of the pitcher. Good SP's are better than just about all bullpen arms, and we have 8 great SP's. Add one of the best offenses in the redraft and you have your self a team that can handle anything and anyone.
