Oh my goodness, I could not agree more. The first movie I thought of when I came into this thread. There are very few movies that are more overrated that I love so dearly as this one.

eta: Also, since people are tossing out comedies. Planes,Trains is a good one, and so is Uncle Buck. But, to digress from the John Hughes motif. What about So I Married an Axe Murderer? I think that may qualify as underrated.

I'm a big Kubrick fan so I'll say Barry Lyndon. Paths of Glory too, but I think Barry Lyndon more so.

Also, I may be alone here, but I think The Sandlot is really a great film, not just a fun nostalgia ride. I mean everybody likes it, but its REALLY good.
