I figured Anchorman would be here before Step Brothers.

    Yes.

I also agree with the Godfather. Seen it once and will likely never see it again.

A few I think are overrated:
    -Pirates of the Caribbean (all)
    -City of God
    -The Matrix
    -Back to the Future (all)
    -District 9
    -Scarface
    -Planet of the Apes

All are on IMDBs top 250 and I find them overrated.

Since when does that make a movie overrated? I've also seen great movies I would never have the need to see again. Doesn't mean they weren't great. How anyone could hate on the Godfather is beyond me. It's near cinematic perfection.

honestly, i think any thing Will Ferrell is overrated. i like his movies the first 2 or 3 times i watch them, but then don't watch them again for a while. Anchorman IMO is pretty over rated, i liked Step Bros better.

I never even said I didn't like it or it's not a masterpiece, did I?

I recognize how great it is, I just find it overrated and something I cannot watch more than once.

I'd say it's a pretty poorly paced movie at times. The whole "Michael-in-Italy" sequence is pretty brutal. And while some people think of the 45 minute opening scene as a positive, I just wished it would get going.

It's a very good movie and has some of the most memorable scenes in movie history, but it's not a great movie in my opinion.

Avatar was great visually with the 3D, but as a story it was just ok.

My friend, we have such different tastes in movies. I actually thought FSM was very average the first time I saw it, but then I saw it with a group of friends a second time and there is so much I didn't catch the first time. It's now one of my all time favorite comedies.

As for Back to the Future... SMH!!!!

District 9 and the 2nd and 3rd Pirates I agree though.

    And I still :LOLove: you.

True, but the thread title "Movies that you dislike that are highly rated amongst most viewers" just doesn't have a good ring to it.

Off the top of my head, some overrated movies:

The Dark Knight, Avatar, Fight Club, Titanic, The Hurt Locker, There Will Be Blood, Memento, Gone With the Wind, The Departed.
I agree with all of these except Fight Club. I'm not sure There Will Be Blood was ever highly rated to begin with. It was a great performance by DDL but the movie itself was nothing special.

The Departed was good, but I agree that it's overrated. It's not even a top 5 Scorsese movie yet it was his only BP Oscar win.

Of course it's overrated..In my eyes. I thought it was terrible, and did not understand why so many people thought it was hilarious.

I'll also agree about The Departed, as others have said. I really enjoyed the movie; It's a great flick to watch. But it's not even close to the best movie Martin has done, and it's a shame that was the movie that is remembered as his only Best Picture Winner.

I liked Fight Club. But, it's overrated. Talk to people who don't know anything about movies, they all love Fight Club.

Because opinions can be stupid, and there are objective measures of a movie's greatness which can be argued about.

If someone says that Transformers 2 is a better movie than....The Godfather (despite The Godfather being called overrated), they are wrong.
