Personally, if I was shrugging heavy I'd go in the cage (the first one) and adjust the safety bars to the point where you barely even have to lift it (unless you also want the 1Rep partial dead) .. you could also do partial deads in the cage adjusting the safety bars for more or less ROM if you're into that.. although I just prefer going full out on deads... but I understand not wanting to take the squat cage for shrugs if thats the reasons, but it would definitely be safer and easier
