A little off-topic, but related to the last post. Who do you guys think gets the 2B job next year?

5th starter is a little bit more narrowed search I think. Either Bromberg or Gibson appear ready for the bigs, or we go with Duensing. I really don't think we'll go to outside sources assuming everything is fine with Baker, Slowey, Blackburn, and Liriano by the end of the year.

It's a toss-up at this point of course but I see us dabbling with Hudson again in the off-season, possibly giving Dinkelman or Singleton a shot in ST, or trading Ramos for a 2B. The 2B I have in mind is Dustin Ackley from the Mariners.

He was the 2nd overall pick last year in the draft and can play the infield or outfield (SEA moved him to 2nd base). He's a great left-handed hitter who many scouts expect to win batting titles once he gets to the big leagues. However, he is currently blocked by Figgins at 2B, Kotchman at 1B (he played 1B at UNC), and Gutierrez in CF (where he also plays). Jose Lopez has a club option for 2011 though many people expect the club to not pick it up and move Figgins back to 3rd so that Ackley can take over 2B.

Lucky for us, we have a very valuable trade asset ourselves in Wilson Ramos. Even better is the fact that Seattle's best catching prospect, Adam Moore, hasn't done **** at the ML level (albeit just 45 career AB's) while playing with the scrub Rob Johnson (career .595 OPS). If Moore doesn't show the pop that he displayed in A ball back in '07, perhaps the Mariners could look at a guy like Ramos who would step in and take over immediately at C. Catcher is one of the biggest holes in their offense and the thoughts of adding Ramos, a guy who is projected to eventually hit 25-30 HR's a season and who brings great defense to the table, may be enough to part with Ackley.

Ramos has gotten off to a slow start so far this year but so has Ackley (.122/.234/.146 in 41 AB's). Ramos is our best trade bait which is why I'm rooting for him to have an amazing season. I believe the offense he would provide for the M's would outweigh their current ensemble at C more so than Ackley over Lopez.

Word is that we've been approached by several teams about Ramos but that he will only be dealt in a significant deal. I'm guessing a swap to get us our 2B of the future would be pretty significant. I'm hoping this type of deal is mulled over at the end of the season because I see it as a pretty good trade for both sides. The M's fill their biggest offensive hole and we fill a hole that has been with this team forever; a 2B that will be the starter for more than 5 years.

Beloit lost 5-3 today. Hicks went 2-4 with a SB making it 2 straight multi-hit games. I'm breathing a little easier now. The 2-34 start worried me.

If Kotchman hits anywhere close to what he's doing now, he will be.

I do agree that with a player like Ackley, room will be made for him unless there is a superstar in his position. I'm hoping he has somewhat of an average year, Ramos has a huge year, and the Mariners catchers, specifically Adam Moore, just suck ***. I see the Mariners, Reds, Red Sox, and Padres as our best trade partners in a deal with Ramos. Regardless, I do think that we will make a huge deal with another team this off-season and obtain a mainstay for Ramos.

I don't think the Mariners will have trouble finding a spot for Ackley. Milton Bradley is taking up room in the outfield at this point after all. Kotchman, Figgins, Lopez, Wilson and Gutierrez are quality players, but none are good enough to block a top prospect, and all of them are highly movable and could bring back a quality return.

I agree but I'm holding out hope that their catchers suck terribly this year as to make them look elsewhere, specifically at Ramos.

He walked none and struck out 2 also. 4 players had multi-hit games: Plouffe went 3-4 with a triple and a HR, Tolbert went 2-4, Repko went 2-3 with a triple, and Ramos went 2-3 with a HR and a BB. Waldrop pitched a perfect 9th (1.00 ERA).

New Britain: The Rock Cats lost 4-5. Revere went 2-5, Singleton went 2-4, and Estarlin De Los Santos went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a walk. McCardell went 6 innings giving up 10 hits, 3 runs, and striking out 1.

Ft. Myers: The Miracle won 4-2 thanks to 6.2 strong innings from Bobby Lanigan. He allowed 7 hits, 1 run, a BB, and recorded 5 K's. Ramon Santana went 1-4 with a double and 2 RBI.

I was just looking stats through our minors and i came accross Shooter Hunt, he had a day the last time he pitched, 3 perfect innings with 6K great boost for his confidence and that fact that 0 walks, shows me a lot!!! If he is back It would make my year, i gave up when i saw he had dubble digit walks in one game..

Yeah his first outing this year was just awful. I love that he's in the pen now since he can better harness his control knowing he's only going to pitch 3 innings max. Great way to get his confidence up and display his good stuff at the same time. Great fastball-curveball combo. I do think we will end up giving him another shot at starting once his command improves but at the very least, he could be a damn good reliever.

Liam Hendriks finally let up a run. 18 innings over 3 starts and 1 more inning in his fourth. Aaron Hicks went 3-3 yesterday and is 1-2 so far today. His average is up to .220 which is pretty good considering it was just at .050 not to long ago.

Rochester: The Red Wings lost 8-3 as they only picked up 4 hits, 2 of which came from the bat of Brian Dinkelman. Plouffe went 1-4 with a triple and 2 RBI and Ramos and Valencia combined to go 0-7.

New Britain: The Rock Cats lost 2-1 as they wasted another great start by Bromberg: 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, and 9 K's. Revere went 1-4 with his 3rd SB and Tosoni went 2-3 with an RBI and a walk.

Ft. Myers: The Miracle lost 3-1. Shooter Hunt threw 2 perfect innings (yes no walks again) with 3 K's. The pen has served him well.

Beloit: Hicks finished 1-3 with a stolen base and 2 walks. Another productive day at the plate. Hendriks gave up only 1 hit, 1 BB, and 1 run over 5 innings whiles striking out 6. David Holbrooks threw 2 shutout innings to move his scoreless streak to 11.1 innings to start the year. Dozier went 2-5 to move his average to .364.
