The worst part is that they tried to give me the chips, they tried so hard to give em to me.

That was a gnarly tourney though, so many players. There was like 100 players being knocked out every 20 seconds.
Yeah it was a fun tournament, wish I would've taken it a bit more seriously because 13k would've been nice.

What position was this guy in when he shoved? It seems like a very bizarre move for someone that late in the tournament unless the blinds/antes were starting to become an issue, which as you indicated they could not have been.

He was like 2nd or 3rd to act. It was a donk play for sure. Not even donk, more like why, you know. Why would you do that? No reason for it at all. We were in this for over three hours at this point and he had plenty of chips to get busy with. It makes no sense to me what so ever. It's just another typical BS play by some random online moron. He was in horrible shape. He was worse than 35 to 1 if I'm not mistaken.

I did play a little loose early but once I doubled up a few times I adjusted my game. Really though, I went up and down so many times in that tourney it was out of control. I tripled up in my first hand and got to about 6k. Then my JJ got beat to an all in pre flop race vs AK. Had JJ again a little later and lost another race vs AQ. Actually, I had JJ three times and lost with em every time. Last one I just folded cause there were four cards to a straight on the board and the dude went all in.

My ups and downs went something like this, start with 2k
    6k
    back down to 3k
    down to 2k
    get back to 5k
    down to 2k
get to about 3,500 and then lose with JJ and it put me down to 600
three straight steals of the blinds and I get back to around 1,600
double up to around 3,000 again
just before the second break I triple up to get to around 9k
People were just playing all in poker on my tables for the first two hours.
It was a wild up and down ride for me with two devastating bad beats that ruined a great run.

I wonder if Guinness is going to be sending out e-mails or something?

Ivey has had a pretty good run this year. He's way short but it's still doable. He just needs a really good run of cards and no bad beats and he could make some noise.

    Limit vs. No-Limit Cash games

I lost $40 at the casino again.

I don't understand why I can't figure Limit hold em out.

The game is $2-$4 and I have no idea what cards anyone has, ever!!!

People bet the same with 3 of a kind as they do with nothing or just a pair.

    You know what I mean?

I got beat with trips 3 times and once with 2 pair.

The only hand I won I had 2 pair.

I seem to do a lot better at no limit because I know when I have the winning hand usually.

Does anyone have some tips for me?

Or is 2-4 limit hold em just lucksauce game?

2/4 Limit suck *** IMO. Too many multi way pots. You can't push people off of anything. Players will try and run you down because it's so cheap to see the river. Go with the baby no limit and get it over with in one hand. Double up right then and there and save yourself the frustration of people drawing out on you. Not that they can't do the same in no limit but they've gotta pay a much heavier price to stick around.

    I hate limit poker.

    Thanks.

    That confirms my thoughts.

I will never play limit poker again.

    Limit hater #3 is here!

It's so annoying when you have a big hand pre-flop like AA, you raise and 4/5 players call you to see that flop.

AA vs 4/5 guys isn't that good, especially in limit, when many will pay to see the 5 community cards.

I play limit poker only when I have 12 or so tables open because it's a science, not an art. I don't feel comfortable playing NLHE or PLO with too many tables because they are arts and you have to put some thought into each play.

I consistently win (slowly at that) at limit games by simply playing tight as can be. It's easy to calculate the odds in limit and know when to draw or fold or just check call to the river etc. What separates a profitable limit player from one who consistently loses is by consistently paying off a player with that last bet. What I mean is, how many times do you see yourself sitting there with AK and a board of all blanks and your opponent fires one more bet at you? It's natural to just throw that bet on the table because it's just one more bet. I won't give anything away, and over time those bets add up, sure there may be times that ace high takes the pot but that won't make up for the next 10 when it doesn't. Also, I know it can be tough to keep the players down, especially in low limits like 2-4, try three betting more often, it gives you control of the hand and also limits the players. Another thing that adds up overtime is raising the flop with draws that you normally call with (if you are in later position). What this essentially does is make it cheaper to draw to your hand (because 9 times out of 10 the player will call your raise and then check to you on the turn).

Just some thoughts off the top of my head about limit, it's not flashy but it can be profitable. Lately I've been really big into PLO and doing very well there so I don't see myself changing games for awhile.

Don't state the obvious. We all know it, we don't need to be reminded.

Poker is on TV because people watch it. ESPN shows spelling bee's and dominoes. Why don't we all start threads debating whether or not those are sports.
