Tests confirm NY Mets shortstop Jose Reyes has an overactive thyroid

    http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/201..._shortsto.html
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Mets said Tuesday that tests confirmed Jose Reyes has an overactive thyroid and that Reyes will remain in New York while doctors determine a course of treatment.

In a statement, the team said Reyes is waiting on the results of additional blood tests, which are not expected before Thursday.

"We will share more information as it becomes available," the statement said.

Last week, I spoke to a leading New York thyroid doctor who said an overactive thyroid is not a serious condition and is easily treatable.

my dad has an overactive thyroid and it doesnt affect him at all. for a baseball player like reyes who has al the money in the world to get the best doctors if it comes down to it, its a complete non issue.

Fingers crossed. Stating the obvious, we need Jose in our lineup to succeed this season and beyond.

I think this is a huge year for the Reyes and the Mets relationship to continue. I think if he were to be injured long term again and miss a lot of time, the team might actually in fact would be willing to trade him or just let the contract run out.

...but that could be my pessimistic side thinking that.

Most confusing injury situation I've ever seen. Every report I have read has said that this isn't even a serious problem...yet it seems that the team is taking it VERY seriously as if Reyes could end up missing months.

if he does, I will not buy it for a moment. I will be convinced that something is still wrong with his leg or went wrong during surgery...

I'll take a bit of overkill after the way things have been mishandled for the last 5 years.
