    "The Replacements" question

Hopefully someone can answer this for me.

I've watched "The Replacements" many times, but rarely catch it all the way through. The prison inmate allowed to play is named Wilkerson, but announcers and his jersey are "Ray Smith." IMDB has the character listed as both names and I can't find an explanation. Anyone explain why the two names?

...because he was an inmate I assume they decided to change his name ray smith so nobody would know he was a guy who belonged in jail and was allowed to play football.

...btw I seen this movie a million times as well. Is just one of those movies that for some odd reason you just love.

The warden at the prison owed the owner/coach a favor and allowed him out to play for the team but for obvious reasons he had to go under a different name. Hence why during the games the announcers were talking like they couldn't find anything out about Ray Smith.

John Madden: According to the Sentinels, it says Ray Smith is - hey, that's weird. No college given, no high school. It just says he's been a resident of the state of Maryland for the last two years and two months, and that he likes to embroider.

I went on and assumed that, but I just wish they'd have put in ONE line in the movie to actually back that up. Perhaps it's part of the movie that is cut out for TV broadcasts.

I've seen this movie many times, and I never noticed The Old Dirty Chinese Restaurant in this movie.
