free, with machine weights you can't build your stabilizing muscles, machine weights are much easier imo.
definitely free weights.
I think with machine weights it isolates the particular muscle your working. But with free weights, you work out those secondary muscles alongside that main muscle.
I've always worked with free weights and resistance bands. Can't remember the last time I used machine weights.
BTW, Stamina you should've added a poll to this. I would like to see what the overall consensus is on this.

Free weights 95% of the time. I do normally go to the gym alone but every now and then I'll get on a machine and put a weight on that would be hard to control by myself. I do however use the leg press everytime I work my legs.
