    AK Out 6 Weeks

TSN has just reported Andrei Kostitsyn has undergone left knee surgery today and will miss the next 6 weeks(and likely the Olympics as well) after a hit he received from Keith Ballard on Dec. 31st. Brother Sergei is also expected to miss the next 2 games due to a lingering ankle injury.

This really sucks since Andrei was finally catching fire. On the brightside though, he'll be placed on the LTIR, meaning the Habs will have a bit more Cap Room to possibly add a scorer near the Trade Deadline.

The only down side, at least in my eyes, is BGL has to play now.

Tough blow, both for him and the team. He had really come around and was contributing greatly. Habs just can't catch a break with injuries this season.

Only "bright" spot, I guess, is that with the Olympic break, AK will miss four weeks of NHL-playing time instead of six.

Can't help but wonder why the Habs waited eight days after the injury was sustained to have AK undergo surgery. Did the medical team misdiagnose it that badly? Terrible blunder -- that's a week of recovery time that's been lost.

This is eight days after the hit. He probably didn't respond to physical therapy.
