    Halak for Giroux? ESPN...

The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly trying to trade Jaroslav Halak, but he's been playing so well that they may need him to make a playoff run, the Montreal Gazette reports.

That brings us back to a rumor that was buzzing a few months ago, that has the Habs moving Carey Price -- not Halak.

For now, though, teams are inquiring about Halak. The Philadelphia Flyers appear to have talked a lot about a trade that would send backup goalie Jaroslav Halak to Philly, and one way this might work is if the Flyers send over Claude Giroux.

Previously, the Flyers apparenlty nixed a trade that would send Jeff Carter over to the Habs, the Ottawa Sun reports. Now, the Boston Globe reports GM Paul Holmgren will try to trade Simon Gagne or Daniel Briere, though it'll be hard given their salaries.

It was thought Giroux wasn't on the block, but as Team 990's Eric Engels writes, the Flyers will have to give up something valuable for Halak and that just might be Giroux.

Previously, Spector wrote that the Habs are looking for a scorer, but they'll have to package a pick with Halak to land one.

Habs GM Bob Gainey feels Halak deserves to be a starting goalie, so he may be looking for as much as a top-six forward.

Also rumored to be interested are the St. Louis Blues and Detroit Red Wings. The Wings have a long-term and short-term option; the Blues may be interested in a younger goalie (both their goalies are 33) but the veterans are playing very well thus far.

How do you even consider trading Halak right now? We are in no rush in making any kind of deal unless it's a knock your socks off kinda deal....

I feel one of the 2 tenders will be dealt to help up front at some point in the season, but now is not the time...

Giroux? They serious? The guy can't hit the broadside of a barn right now...Why would we trade our current best player for him?

    Keep Giroux..

Giroux is going to be beast in the NHL and if Gainey can get him for Halak, he should jump on that in a heartbeat.

I like both goalies. A 60/40 split in playing time wouldn't kill either of them. Halak might be the "road goalie," and Price plays in Montreal. If there is quality French-Canadian forward out there, there will always be the cry for the Habs to trade for him. However when Gionta returns, we'll have three scoring lines and the trade issue changes dramatically. Soon, some team will give Montreal the moon to get a goalie and Gainey will act. I think it actually may end up that we're able dump someone as part of the deal.

Why not? Because he's having a decent season on the 5th worst team in the NHL? You know where Giroux's 24 points would rank him in Montreal? Tied for 3rd with Andrei Kostitsyn. He's only 21 and you're acting like he's been in the NHL for 5+ years and has done dick all. He's much better then any forward prospect we have in Hamilton or in University. Giroux's a legitamate Top 6 forward who's defensively responsible and Gainey won't get more than him for Halak from another team because like Gainey said, he expects a 2nd round pick, like he got for Huet few years ago.
