    What Team Would Win?

I often see a "who would win thread, Detroit Lions or Florida Gators" or something like that, and the main reason people say that the Lions would win hands down is the sheer volume of talent on any NFL team compared to a college team.

So what about this question, who would win, The Detroit Lions or this years College All-America team. Would the talent be that comparable or would the Lions still maintain the advantage?

Lions would rape them. Gosder Cherilus was one of the best LT in college a few years ago. Despite evolving a lot as a player he is still a mediocre RT. That alone is a perfect example of why the Lions would win.

lions would win and it would be a blowout. it takes a while for college players to adjust to the NFL game. a few are impact players as rookies, but for the most part even first round picks need a few years to become effective. and do you really see some college kid covering calvin johnson?

Some College kid covering Calvin Johnson? They did it WHILE HE WAS IN COLLEGE.

He had 3 catches for 13 yards vs. North Carolina.

    So somebody stopped him...

If you look at the All-America team, 99% of them get drafted and are the absolute cream of the crop...

Look at last years All-America team, using only the players that went to the NFL:

    Stafford at QB
Donald Brown and Knowshon Moreno at HB
    Crabtree and Maclin at WR
Andre Smith and Oher at OT
    Unger at C

    Orakpo at DE
    Terrence Cody at DT
Aaron Curry, Laurinitas, and Brian Cushing at LB

That's not a terrible team, especially considering it was from last years players, so those players are people who have less than 1 years pro experience and are making an impact for their teams...

Imagine the same debate with the 2005 All-America team, or the 2004 All-America team...

I think it would be closer than people think...

Are you seriously going to use that as an argument, then ignore the fact that he is now regarded as arguably the best WR in the game? Or the fact that he's gone up against some of the best secondaries in the game and torched them? Are we also to ignore how great he has been on a terrible Lions team?

Add in all that, plus the fact the Lions are much better than they were last year, and the College team doesn't stand a chance.

I don't think any college team could hang with any NFL team.

we just talking about any college team.
we are talking about an all american college team consisting of all the best college players.
that usually means some solid or better NFL talent at every position.
given some time to practice together, who knows what would happen.

Arguably the best WR in the game? Really?

Someone would argue he's better than Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Smith, and Reggie Wayne ALREADY?

They must not be arguing seriously...

No doubt he's improved from his college years, but to say that no one in college could cover Calvin is wrong because they did it then, and how many Rookie Corners come in the league and do well... many

Were talking about the best College players in the nation, top of the tier. How much better is the talent on the Lions? The majority of those players will go in the first day of the draft and the rest will most certainly be drafted.

Do you think they'd stand a chance against any team in the NFL? The Chiefs? Rams? Browns?

I think the All Americans would win because they would care more. Also your talking about a ton f first rounders here trying to prove themselves fvs rounds 1 through 7 with high inflated contracts and nothing to play for.

    Name them right now.

Oh... You can't? I'll help you... vontae Davis and Sean Smith.. Wait, what...? They can't shut down Calvin either? Yeah, that's right, they can't shut down Calvin.

And to seriously think that Megatron isn't arguably the best WR in the league is beyond retardation considering everything he has ahieved on such a terrible team. That being said, the Lions are much better this season than last.

They put up a GREAT effort gainst the Saints, and they almost beat the Steelers and Cardinals.

Can't Shut down Calvin? Are you implying that Calvin is unstoppable or something? Lets look at his stats:

He's gone for over 100 yards only twice
    10 catches 0 times
    only has 4 TDs
Only over 60 yards 4 TIMES

In fact, lets look at some of his studlier games:

5 catches 49 yards vs. Washington
2 catches 27 yards vs. Seattle
2 catches 10 yards vs. GB
4 catches 37 yards vs. Baltimore
3 catches 35 yards vs. Arizona

    That's not exactly mind blowing.

Do you think he's the (arguably) best WR in the league right now?

How many people would rate him above Moss? Fitz? A. Johnson?

    Not many.

He's incredibly talented, but he's not yet the best WR in the league, and to argue otherwise is basing it more on his potential and physical ability than his polish and production as a WR up to this point...

wait... were you responsible for Haywood-Bey over Crabtree?
