When the Lions chose Matt Stafford with the 1st pick in the NFL draft, some people said it was a good pick and others said it was an awful pick. The people who said it was an awful pick seemed to be right at the beginning of the season when Mark Sanchez was clearly outplaying Stafford. But now I am looking at their stats and Staffords seem the same as, if not better than, Sanchezs stats.
Stafford: 190 of 351 for 54.1%
Sanchez: 158 of 297 for 53.2%
Stafford: 2,124 yards passing for 6.1 yards per a pass
Sanchez: 2,049 yards passing for 6.9 yards per a pass
Stafford: 12 TD's and 18 int's with a long of 75 yards
Sanchez: 11 TD's and 17 int's with a long of 53 yards
Stafford: 17 carries for 110 yards and 2 TD's with no fumbles
Sanchez: 29 carries for 97 yards and 3 TD's with 2 fumbles
Also, keep in mind that Stafford has played 3 less games than Sanchez and Sanchez has, in most peoples opinions, a better supporting cast.
So did the Lions make the right pick?
